Non Tachymètre Speedmaster Bezels: Are There Any Out There?

Greetings all. I was perusing my copy of Moonwatch Only which my wife gave me for Christmas and noted that it was possible to get a Speedmaster with an alternative bezel as a factory fitted option from as early as 1960. The ones mentioned in the book are the pulsometer, telemeter and decimal bezels. These bezels seem pretty rare as I've yet to see one in the wild. So, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has a Speedmaster with one of these alternative bezels. Thanks in advance for your responses. Gratuitous watch pic now...

As a medical practitioner, the pulsometer would be more useful to me. However, I find that I can still use the tachymètre scale as a pulsometer. Just start the chrono, count thirty beats, stop the chrono, then read the number on the scale. The pulse rate will be half the value of the number read off the scale 😀

The choice for an alternate bezel has been a request by several Speedmaster aficionados (e.g. "60 minutes" bezel or "15 Pulsations" bezel).
It can't be hard to offer the choice of another bezel with a brand new Speedmaster ?
Of course as, in the end, they didn't take NASA astronauts' feedback (1968) into consideration, why should they listen to clients/customers ?

Pulsometer, decimal, telemeter in either kilometers or miles and regular tachymeter are all available new from Omega and fit pretty much every Speedy Pro case up until the current 3861 model and any Omega certified workshop can order them. The bezel replacement would take like 15 minutes for them to do.

Reference numbers is as follows
Tachymeter: 082SU1589
Pulsometer: 082SU1589PU
Decimal: 082SU1589DE
Telemeter km: 082SU1589TE1
Telemeter miles: 082SU1589TE2

Not sure how willing most workshops would be to fit the non standard ones though. I guess you could always ask them.

Really? I see one person asking for it repeatedly. Everyone else not so much

Found this page from Omega's 2018 catalog. It shows the limited edition CK2998 which features a pulsometer bezel:

So, it definitely is possible to specify a Speedmaster with a non tachymètre bezel. Just don't know if an Omega boutique would do it for you on a factory fresh watch.

😲
Everyone else must be using/prefering the tachymètre instead of having a more legible "60 seconds" bezel ?
Although astronauts/cosmonauts could time a 7 hours long spacewalk, in practice, most down-to-Earth people don't time events lasting more than 15 minutes (14 minutes hard boiled egg 😁) and the now famous 1970 Apollo 13 LM DPS burn ( Lunar Module – Descent Propulsion System) burn lasted only 14 seconds...
Anyway, a real effective sports chronograph should be able to time upon a 10th of a second, even a 100th of a second (Zenith has done so).

Here’s my 2998-1 with Pulsometer next to my 2915-3. It is a good alternative when the Base 1000 bezel is missing. Should have a Telemeter bezel around somewhere as well…

Beautiful watches. Thanks for sharing. Look in very good condition considering their age. I'm guessing that the watch on the right originally had no bezel and you got a pulsometer one as a replacement? Or did you purchase it with the pulsometer already fitted?

Thank you!

No. The 2998-1 came with a service bezel and I had the pulsometer around. I’d rather use it which is kind of correct than spending half a fortune to find a Base 1000 for it. The 2915-3 on the left is original as it left the factory in 1959.

Is it still a speedmaster if it has a different bezel? Pulsemaster I guess sounds ok too

These are Omega manufactured parts made for the Speedmaster. I believe they are still Speedmasters.

😬 Sorry. Clearly, I need to relax.

We occasionally do get those comments though. The 3861 stirred up alot of discussion about whether it could still be called a moon watch.

Here is a special I build, using mikes bezel and a repainted dial that a now retired dial maker did for me

Actually came here, after seeing one for sale online in Holland, to see if it was a genuine bezel or not as I’d never seen one before. This one-
