Apologies ignore my comment I see now the new explorer is 36 rather than 39. Which explain why it has shot up in value.

The TT looks better than on the website, however it seems out of place. The SS is spot on and the size looks perfect IMHO.

The Monochrome article and Rolex in an IG post today mention about the dial being lacquered. Is that different than the previous 39mm model?

I don’t know but i’d assume it will reflect the light instead of absorbing it. There’s an anti reflective coating on the sapphire though.

YEs, as I understand it. No more matte dial. Shame.

Also just wondering I actually prefer the OP36 to the explorer. It seems very similar besides the 3.6.9 indices. Anyone else prefer either over the other for any reason?

I prefer the last gen OP36. I tried it on (twice) and it's killer. If only the color I wanted was in stock, but nope. I want the white dial.

If the new Exp is anything like the latest DateJust, it will wear small, and I have small wrists...

Surprising that they decided to discontinue the 39mm, which I assume would be the size for most buyers. But the 36mm is ::love::::love::::love::

The tt kind of reminds me of a two tone Seiko Alpinist.

I really hate that they discontinued the 39mm. I've been trying to get one for over a year now from several AD's and no one had any stock the whole time. I figured this would happen. Oh well, time to look elsewhere . Because I can't wear a 36mm. Or rather, I don't want to!

I’d be surprised if they don’t te issue a 49 or 41 mm.

that said you can still get a 39 mm on the secondary market. I’m lucky I have mine.... which is the metal numeral one that weirdly I like better.

Most obvious is the lineage of the Explorer, but you also have the bracelet double lock & 5mm micro adjust, you get the highly legible Mercedes hands, and the flat bezel.

Also it appears to my eye from the pictures that the new Explorer has a different case profile than the 36mm OP, you can tell by the lugs alone. The Explorers are thinner/more traditional to Rolex.

Same for me, but 7 months wait from two ADs and nothing. I will reserve judgement on the 36mm version and keep an open mind, but I tried the recent DJ36 on, and while I could wear it, if felt diminutive, and I even a have smallish (6.5") wrist. Same for the DJ41... I could wear it, but too big. Why can't Rolex make a 38mmm watch?

That's gorgeous. I had to double take there. Actually looks like a blue explorer. She's a lucky woman!
Thanks, That's very informative. Perhaps I need to see them both in person to appreciate these intricacies.

Explorer 1 36mm is very deceiving. The proportions are so good that after a while you will be convinced it’s the perfect size watch. I have a 7” wrist and don’t wish anything different. Also have 42mm PO and SMP which I like, but there is something very special about these E1 36 proportions.

6.5” wrist here, and while I’ll always feel my 39mm Explorer is a perfect watch for me, the down size announcement has caused me to shift gears in my OP quest.

I won’t turn down a 41mm if offered, but am now kind of hoping the call will be for the 36mm. I guess just because the Explorer change was enough to make me pause and ask myself, “Why the hell not?”

My 34mm Precision from ‘88 never felt small until the modern era of gigantism arrived. I’ll very happily wear 36mm if/when the option presents itself.
