Hi.
i have just purchased an omega seamaster 30 and the seller claims that it runs only by wearing it and you should not be able to rotate the crown, is that true?

No that isn’t true you should still be able to wind the crown. I’d recommend getting rid of that bracelet as well they can damage the lugs.

Well, you need to be able to pull out the crown and rotate the crown to set the time,

In addition, you should also be able to rotate the crown without pulling the grown out to wind the watch. I believe that the Seamaster 30 used a manually wound caliber, not an automatic.

Can you remove the caseback (if you have the tools to do that) and post a picture of the movement?

Always better to post watches here before buying 😉

Once you have it, get it serviced and cleaned up (clean the grunge and polish the crystal and rub with a jewellers cloth) and put a nice strap on it and it’ll make a nice, classic daily wearer.

watch if it wasn't cheap
Ha ha I always want to look at the bright side when possible hopefully it was a cheap score and a can be turned into a good daily wearer but doesn’t sound like the seller was being upfront

No.

It is bullshit.

The seller is either a liar or an idiot.

Absolutely correct. no amount of waving your arm will wind the watch.

I would return it.

At least the seller didn't say the watch needed a new battery. 🤦

Well many auto Seikos can't be wound from the crown but I am not sure how a manual wind watch would function if shaking your arm was the only motive force.

In some cases, the noob tax is worth paying as we all learn the hard way at some point.

Oh yes I’m well familiar with the seiko shake I do it at least two to three times a week and I’m not a above admitting I do it on occasion with mechanical stuff out of habit until I realize who and where I am.

it has a quite noticeable scratch around 19:30 but i can live with that.

Obviously, no photo of the movement but the case, crown, hands, indices and face look fine to me, particularly on a 70 year old watch.
Doesn’t look redialled to me. The price is fair ((subject to movement and working).

This is my 1950 cal 351 in a 2577-4 case

It may be fairly priced for the condition, I don't know, but I still wouldn't buy it. The dial kills it for me, it's not only the scratch that you highlighted, but also one at 11 o'clock, at 4 and above the "Automatic" text. I'm more forgiving on polished cases (which this one is) than others if the dial is in a nice condition, but it's obviously not the case. I'd save the €400 and spend slightly more on a nicer example which you will enjoy for longer.

As for the ref. I believe it's a 2577, not a 2576 (which has a subdial).
