Hi all

I am looking at two Omega Constellations as my first vintage watch, and would appreciate any advice.

I would like to know if the watches represent good value, and if there's anything to be wary of (in the opinion of your expert eyes).

Thank you all for your time 😀

This is option 1 - priced at 920 Euro.

This is option 2, priced at 1670 Euro:

Both are ridiculously overpriced, specially the second one. Those movements weren't the best Omega made. I suggest looking for 56x, 7xx C-case Connies if that's the style you like, there are some on sale here now.

Thank you for your response - hopefully I can find one with a blue dial with that calibre movement!

Connies aren't my strong suit, but I think Rochete above is pretty spot on. Blue dial might be more of a challenge to find. That said, are you looking more for a collection piece or something to wear with any regularity?

Something to wear regularly 😀

I think the two you linked are the rarer JDM constellation releases in the 1970's(?). I'm not familiar with pricing but perhaps there is a premium on them?

Apologies if my info is incorrect, I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me will chime in soon

I’d venture to say that you might even consider a proper restoration (not a Frenkenwatch, but an example properly service, correct parts, etc) rather than an irreplaceable original, since if something unforeseen were to happen during wear there’s no real way to bring it back to being ‘untouched’. That also depends on how you feel about some patina on the piece, I.e. visible pre existing wear.

Just some thoughts.

I dare say I'm wrong about this but I've never seen the OMEGA logo mounted beneath the hands like this and that AML looks a bit uneven.

What do I know!

The OMEGA beneath hands is totally correct for certain references of that period.

I had a feeling I was going to be corrected...
