Newbie here... inherited Seamster Deville and...

My wife inherited a Seamaster Deville. Grandma passed a few years back and she recently found the watch in some of her belongings. The watch was also in a pre moon speedmaster box. We know very little about the box and watch, other than our 2 days of off and on internet searches on these 2 items we have been blessed with. We do want to sell these items as is. Is a local jeweler or watch shop a good place to sell them to? Online? What is the value of the box and watch? Do we sell them separately? Any help is appreciated!

Does it run (I see the second hand has moved) ? I'd almost be tempted to replace the crystal before you try selling it. You'll get your money back.

You should sell them separately, as people might be interested in one and not the other.
Also yiu need to find a professional watchmaker to open the watch so you can take crisp pictures of the inside care back and the movement, showing all engravings precisely. You should not ask a jeweler to do this, they might damage the watch irreparably.

just be careful if people contact you via private messages here that you do not get targetted by scammers.

Sorry but I can’t advise on your other questions, you should pois pictures of the clasp on your bracelet and all the înscriptions there.

If you're looking to maximize your money, the best way to sell them is online on a site like eBay. I would list them seperately with a lot of photos and a detailed description.

Does the Seamaster run? Does it keep time?

It does run. And appears to keep time. Does replacing a scratched glass crystal always increase the value? Is there any value in an original, but dinged up crystal? And roundabout what would should something like that cost?

14k gold filed SMDV, I'd say $300-$700 depending on condition.

What is the logo on the bracelet clasp? Zodiac? I can't see it.

Yeah that's a Zodiac bracelet made by JB Champion. You want to pull that off and sell it separately. 👍

Ok. Sell separately because someone would want to put their own bracelet on it? Or the current bracelet is more valuable by itself? Thanks for your patience and help.

It's for a Zodiac watch, so someone will want it for their gold vintage Zodiac. It won't add much value to the Omega.

It might help you get more for the watch, but sometimes people on eBay would surprise you. You might want to see if you could take it to a jeweler or watchmaker and have them buff out some of the scratches on the crustal for a nominal cost. (However tell them not to touch the case) Omega crystals are kind of expensive, and the ones for this model are somewhat unique, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to track down a cheaper generic. If you can avoid it, you probably wouldn't want to spend the $50 plus installation for an OEM, because I don't think you'll necessarily get $50 in added value. The important thing is it being complete and that the buyers can tell that it has a clean dial.

Otherwise, I would wind it and make sure it keeps okay time before getting it put on a basic leather strap. Then list the bracelet, watch, and box separately. If you're willing to wait, your best bet for the box would be finding out what a fair price would be and listing it as a Buy it now or best offer. I find that selling boxes through an online auction can be a little unpredictable. With a BIN, somebody will eventually come around and pay a premium to complete their set.

I would get an inexpensive new leather strap and polish the crystal with Polywatch. It is easy to do, and you can find lots of videos on Youtube. Just be careful with water, this watch is no longer waterproof at this point.

Don't do anything to it. Let whoever buys it do what they want to it.

Where I live a SMDV - gold filled or not - will never get below $500 unless there was severe issues.

Re. that box - is there anything in particular that makes people say it is for a pre-moon Speedmaster? To me it looks pretty much like I would expect any Omega of this age to come in? I am not a box-expert, so please educate me 😀

Was just about to write this. The OP's watch - if it runs - would easily fetch 500-700$ here in Denmark.

I hope the OP is in Denmark. 😁
(That was simply the approximate range I saw in a cursory sold items eBay search. Obviously the OP's photos don't really permit an accurate assessment.)
