New wooden Omega box is coming

Think it will be expensive to do in natural wood, as you say you have to cut it and then wastage from imperfect parts been cut away, it could turn out to be an expensive process and then watch price increases.

I like new box and perhaps it is a little to big for a single watch as mentioned earlier but i am not complaining.

I like to disagree. Some sorts of wood - beech or cherry tree - are inexpensive and easy to machine. A CAM process is required to make the manufacturing cheap. The cost of the wood for the box is less than one dollar. In fact all the material involved is cheap. The costly process of the assembly matters most. Should be made in China, air cargo flown to Switzerland. There is no way a massive wood box would increase the price of the watch. Other than Omega marketing thinks the watch has more value because of the nicer box.

I tend to agree. Case in point: Panerai has been using nice wooden box right from the start and back then they were USD$2-2.5k list price so I doubt the wooden box adds THAT much to the price.

I think at the end of the day, you buy watch to wear watch not box, omega probably as far as concerned created a flashy box, you put watch on your wrist and you put the box away or sell it in ebay 😀

A number of the Panerai boxes I've seen are, in fact, veneer. Also, how many watches do Panerai sell a year? Omega moves roughly 700,000 pieces...

I guarantee you that if you were to produce 700,000 boxes a year with the same, high, quality of solid wood used for producing the boxes, it will be costly! but it's not only the price and dificulty of producing them, it is also because of the demand for homogenous quality and because of the sheer number required. It really isn't a case of just multiplying the cost of a single box with the amount needed.

I like to disagree. Some sorts of metal - brass or steel - are inexpensive and easy to machine. A CAM process is required to make the manufacturing cheap. The cost of the metal for the watch is less than one hundred dollars. In fact all the material involved is cheap. The costly process of the assembly matters most. Should be made in China, air cargo flown to Switzerland. There is no way a watch should be this expensive. Other than Omega marketing thinks the watch has such value because of the name...

Many watsches are bought as a present and in those cases a nice wooden box is important.

Which is why Rolex doesn't sell any watches. They just can't seem to understand this!

Rolex sells watches as the buyers don't loose money on the watch. 😀

I got this box when I bought my Seamaster 300 last year in Nobember. Box quality is very good. Quite heavy. Beautifully constructed, I was very impressed! Btw this was my first luxury watch and my dream watch as a kid. Haha

I think you can't order these boxes. You might try Ebay or you ask the fellows at the boutique.
