Hopefully this is not a fake, the new Omega box (that is supposed to finally (!) replace the red "leather" box) posted on the other forum:

I like it, but do not know if it will be replacing the wooden box you got with alle the gold watches up to now...

It definitely looks better, but the quality is difficult to judge from pictures. A lot of the quality feel of wood is if it is heavy solid wood or just veneer. What I do like is that it is not lacquered.

The lack of dove-tail corners concern me. Unless this is milled out of one piece of lumber, then it's probably just veneer. Regardless, it certainly looks better than the current boxes, especially the interior.

The number of those red (and black LE version) imitation leather boxes I've had peel and disintegrate on me is rather frustrating. Nice step up imo.

No chance of blind mitres I suppose? I also think veneer - on balance - and I agree with earlier comments - it's an enormous improvement. The metal work certainly looks solid. Must look out for one now.

It's about time, Omega. My red boxes haven't gone to hell, yet, as I've been very, very careful but it's nice to see Omega finally tackle this.

I reckon quality will be alright, the metal work is probably just lifted from some of the other premium boxes. The wood, I could be wrong, but perhaps it's similar to what was used for the Good Planet? That felt pretty solid to me.

For sure a veneer. Looking at the grain pattern it could not have been milled from a single piece. That said, I really like it. Hope to see them available to us.

If Omega is reading this, they could probably make a small fortune selling the empty boxes to those of us that have had their crappy red pleather boxes self-destruct over the years. I'm sure they know by now of the problem with the red boxes, and this would help their image for customer service.

That's a really good looking Omega box.

So the previous/current red Omega box isn't very durable?

It may look decent for a few years, but then the pleather starts to peel ans it basically self destructs on you. NOT a box befitting a brand trying to move upscale

My Pleather box bought in late 2006 is still on a slow disintegration as I speak. I read somewhere that it had to do with the foam contained in the outer box reacting with the leather and then I heard it was humidity. In my opinion there are no excuses it was just a cheap and crappy container (can't bring myself around to call it a watchbox).

The red boxes are overall bad, no two ways about it, and these new wooden boxes have to be an improvement. However, I sure as heck hope the internal portion of the new wooden box is not the same material as the old red box; that would be a nightmare.

Like the new box, but don't want to hold out purchasing my next watch waiting for the box to be released.
