New Speedmaster 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing Rumors

While visiting Huntsville Alabama this weekend I visited an Omega AD there. In conversation, the manager mentioned that he understood that Omega was staging an event at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration (part of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center) to announce the 50th Anniversary Speedmaster. He said that it was planned to occur "in a couple of weeks". He also said that the new Speedy would carry the 321 movement (contradicting previous statements made when the 321 restart was announced).

The Davidson Center houses many Apollo era artifacts including a full Saturn V rocket, the Apollo 16 Command Module, and many others. Marshall Spaceflight Center on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville was home to Werner Von Braun and the team that developed the Saturn V. All in all, a plausible area for Omega to announce the new Speedy.

A second rumor was that the new Speedy would only be offered by the AD to customers that have previously purchased Speedmasters through that AD. That particular rumor seemed to me to be a blatant attempt to sell me something in the moment to secure my place in line.

As with all rumors -- take with a big grain of salt!

I was at the OB recently and was told that they are taking deposits from folks that have already purchased an Omega from them (aka, existing client). The $5,000 fully refundable deposit puts you in the corporate queue for delivery - FIFO. Also, told that the Omega Sales Meeting (maybe only USA?) was this coming week, so hope to get some "real" news on what is going to take place.

Is there really a giant Speedmaster in that museum? It’s neat!

Yes — quite an advertisement I’d say!

What? I totaly missed that until you pointed it out. I want that in my living room. Wait, I don't think it'll fit cause it's bigger than my entire house. ..

This deposit thing we keep seeing from US members is 100% not something AD's do in the UK. They aren't allowed. They simply phone you and give you 24 hours usually to collect and pay in full or they move onto the next person on the list

OBs taking $5,000 deposits to insure that you will get some unannounced product could be a dangerous game for them. We don't know what will be introduced, the number, price or anything else. Taking $5,000 as a deposit, even if refundable, could be a mess if production isn't enough to satisfy demand.

I’d like to think that Omega would realize the demand will be huge for this release and set the production quantity accordingly. Why leave demand unmet and money on the table? Scalper resales don’t help Omegas bottom line after all.

Do these people get a receipt for this deposit? What would it say on it as it has to be ran through their til system. "$5k deposit for possible moon watch" lol??

It was (and is) inconceivable to me that Omega would develop a new 321 and NOT put it into the 50th anniversary watch. I should have made some bets.

SS not numbered Gold ones will be

If they made it 5-10k and sold out there is money lost. It’s all about $$ for them
“special” is us 😉
With the ST releases they know the Speedmaster is hot at the moment and sold out in a day How does the marketing in OB,s go.
( this is the 50th but they are all sold out so buy the moon watch that is 2k cheaper )

My OB said they are not taking deposits anymore as someone complained to corporate about how long it’s taking to get their 50th piece even though they were up front with the client. My OB said they will contact me and I’m on the “list” without putting a deposit down. I’m in the US.

So if it not numbered nor limited will it be possible to just purchase it once deliveries start ? Or they is a date past which it won't be possible to buy one ?
I'm pretty excited to see one, but I doubt I'll fit my budget unfortunately.
