New Smp 300m Is Too Fast

So I've been checking my watch vs. USNO Master clock online. Not sure if that's a valid way of testing the accuracy of my watch but if it is, I believe I'm running too fast. The watch has raced ahead by 3 seconds in about 6 hours. Is that normal? abnormal? Cause for concern? Is it worth resolving or do I live with it because since I don't have an auto-winder I need to set the time anyway when I don't wear it...

Just curious.

Omega specs call for an average daily rate of between -1 second and +6 seconds. This is measured on a timing machine, so the actual rate on your wrist may be slightly different. Having said that, 3 seconds fast in 6 hours is faster than it should be, but honestly I would measure this over a longer period to get a better feel for it.

Cheers, Al

Yep, rate is done on a 24 hour period. Your watch could have been in mostly a position that it gains during the short span of 3 hours.

Also, some of us believe in a break in period. After a couple months, my new AT is off by less than 10 seconds a month. It was much more than that the first few weeks.

What's your position regarding break in time on new movements? In the past there was often some variation from new at least that I'd experienced on some watches when they were new before settling.

Politics, religion, and break in - three topics I won't touch....

People who believe will believe, and people who don't, won't.

I have no opinion on it personally....at least that's all I'm prepared to say.

Cheers, Al

Personally, I have always used the 30 day measure. After 30 days I check the average rate to find out how my watch is maintaining time.

Also, I wear my watch 23 hrs and 49 minutes per day. It stays on my wrist while I sleep. I only take it off for 10 minutes to shower in the morning.

Once I tested its time keeping for one week by taking it off at bedtime. The result was it lost a bit more time than I would prefer.
