Hi all! Been lurking around for a while! I was never a big poster in any forums but I've been reading and enjoying posts for a while. I've always been a fan of watches, got my first Timex when I was 6, at 8 years old I specifically chose a pocket watch for Christmas. Since then I've had many different types, a lot of cheaper watches for the most of 'em. 2008 came and I was gifted an Invicta Pro Diver 8926A (scalloped bezel and Miyota movement). Still wear it when I'm doing real tough jobs since a ding more on it isn't gonna change much. This watch made me discover the wonderful world of mechanical watches. Bought a few other Invicta's (cheap and wide range of sizes and styles) and wouldn't you know it I always came back to diving watches. Last summer I decided to treat myself to the one iconic watch from my childhood: an SMP300. Which color to choose other than blue? None for me. After all, if blue was good enough for James Bond in Goldeneye, I guess it's good enough for me and anyway, life is much more beautiful with dashes of color here and there. It almost never leaves my wrist. I think it might have stopped 2/3 times since last July. I'm definitely not babying it and it's holding up great so far. I'm almost never even worried for it! I look forward to exchanging with a lot of you over time. Sorry for the wall of text, I'm just real glad I found a community of people as passionate as I am about watches. Y'all have a nice day!
Be aware, joining this forum might lead to some company for your lovely SMP300 sooner or later. Welcome
Yup, still have it. It's a cheap thing that came from Sears but to me it meant the world at that time. Still have the Timex even if nobody asked this watch wasn't taken off before I was something like 10.
Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. Might be a while but a Speedmaster and a Planet Ocean are on the horizon.
Having your first watch(s) from when you were a kid is one of the coolest things in collecting IMO. I still have one of my first watches.
Because you're sooooo interested here's the pic. Don't worry, I'm not wearing any of those anymore. (Except the black diver) Some of them are more on the side of clocks than anything else they'd actually look great on my garage wall! Not much use for them but all in all, there's maybe 1000$ worth (or not) of Invicta. Some are gifts given from well meaning parents. The Nixon I bought with my second paycheck ever, when I was 15 maybe? The mirrored one is a gift from an uncle. Really hard to read in the sun Some day I'll hopefully be able to replace all those yellow boxes with Omega's!
Yeah! I'm looking forward to finding one for my daughter. I've considered giving her mine but I'm not even sure it would still work even with a new battery.
