Hi, everyone. First time poster, long time lurker. The men in my family have loved Omegas, but I was today years old when I got my first. Picked up a 310.30.40.50.06.001 Speedy (First Omega in Space). I'm beyond elated to be wearing this stunner while I'm typing to you. Hope the week is treating y'all right so far.

Also, apologies, but I totally misread another intro thread as being a sort of meta-thread of all new member intros and accidentally posted there. And then timed out of being able to edit it. At least this Speedy makes me look smarter.

Nice! Welcome to the forum, you’ve started with one of the best modern Speedmasters in that Cal 3861 FOIS, it’s an absolutely gorgeous dial.

Very nice watch. I had a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with that goofy reverse gear next to sixth. I would have kept it if the reverse had been where it belongs.

The watch however, is a keeper.

When I test drove this vehicle, it completely baffled me that they'd designed it like this. I also grew up with many a five-speed so wasn't even used to having another gear to go to. But I needed to back out of the parking space to start the test drive and could not for the life of me figure out how to get into reverse. The salesman didn't know either, so he called somebody else over. Seven years later, I've gotten used to it. But it is very odd indeed.

Welcome to the best watch forum on this planet. Gorgeous piece - I only have one Speedmaster (a Moonwatch), but your model is spectacular. I can't comment on the transmission issue ... I never learned to drive stick (a personal humiliation).

I'd be interested in the Venn diagram overlap between people who wear mechanical watches and people who are manual transmission enthusiasts. I think it's considerably bigger than zero.

Thanks! It has made me quite happy to look down and to the right lately.

I was thinking of that Venn diagram as I took the photo, actually. I think you're absolutely right that it would be a large overlap.

And it isn't too late! Get yourself a clunker from Facebook marketplace with a manual, find a large parking lot nearby, and you'll learn in a day 😁😎
