Hi all,

My father's passing made me a vintage watch owner, and enthusiast.

Before he passed, he gave me his late 60's Seamaster. I was always fascinated by the Seahorse on the back as a child. This was the first nice and frivolous thing he had bought for himself after immigrating into the United States and began doing well for himself. He wore it almost every day.

As dad aged into his late 80's began losing his memory and we did not want anything to happen to his Seamaster.

After he passed, I found a very old rectangular Omega that I had never seen before in his desk. It would not surprise me if this is a family watch, but my father was the last one to pass so there is no one in the family who remembers this watch. Knowing how sentimental my father was I am confident this is a family watch. I do not know the reference or year of this rectangular Omega.

When my son was baptized, I went to the Omega store and bought a brand new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades 38mm Ref 220.10.38.20.09.001

The reason for this reference was to match as closely as possible to my father's Seamaster. The sunburst-champagne color closely matches my father's. I would rather have the iconic Omega Seahorse caseback, but my son likes to see the wonderful Cal 8800.

So, my fathers Seamaster is now a three generation watch, and my son has a new "first generation" watch to pass on.

Methinks I need my own Omega so we have the triple-fecta of three gen, two gen, one gen Omegas 馃榿

Thank you for your time. I look forward to participating in this forum.

Greetings from Baltomore. Lots of DelMarVa on the forum.

And a lovely intro, sorry for the loss of your father but nice that you are carrying on the tradition.

And as a pilot and now Omega enthusiast- it seems like a Speedmaster is in your future.

Thank you. I love the idea of a Speedmaster, however my tastes tends to be pretty simple....and I can't read the little numbers.

It's true the Tag Heuer Monaco I bought new does feature a chronograph; I am not completely complication averse. See attached. I like that the chrono dials are not highlighted and blend in, as well as the brown. I've not seen another. Note: the Python strap is Tag Heuer and came in the box. A unique piece I enjoy wearing.

I really like GMT's, but they can be very busy for me as well. Currently contemplating Seiko's GMT with the 9S based mechanical movement.

Not a big fan of the amount of writing on modern faces.... I personally do not like a word-salad on my dial. 馃槑馃榿

...and now to show I do get wild hairs in strange places..... while visiting Zugspitz skiing I saw a Chinese made tourbillon movement in a Langengrad branded watch in a store I could not resist. Not only is is very busy with the dial design, tourbillon, it also has day/date/year/month making this watch completely out of character for me.

At under 500EU I figured it was a very nice looking watch and very affordable. Going against my usual taste I bought it totally on a whim.

It has been reliable and accurate for 15 years, the brown strap and deployment clasp look great and function well.

In all, a most satisfying if odd-ball (for me) watch to wear.

So you think you actually use the little sub-dials on the Speedmaster!! lol. Maybe for timing pasta or parking meters.

Most people who spend time adoringly staring at their watches couldn鈥檛 tell you what time it was if you asked them 5 seconds after they looked up.

And nice Monaco. This forum has a sister forum for Heuer鈥檚. Not as heavily trafficked as this one and many of the same members but you should pop over there and introduce yourself. Same login and password worked there as here,

Welcome and my condolences for losing your dad. Very nice intro and story and always great to hear about watches that have special meaning to you. There are a fair number of DMV members here, and some of us are also into things of the 2 and 4-wheeled variety. Hope you stay and enjoy the forum!
