I don't have any images of the back to compare- watch is at the bank but I shall get some pictures next time I pick it up and see how the Omega refinish is or was in the early days of having to reapply it

It happened to mine shortly after purchasing it new so sent back FOC under warranty. Haven't checked the back since to see if it has happened again though
You are the first and only one that I know of that has reported this. I have searched forum and the net far and wide and have not come across anyone else that reported this issue. This watch is around since 2010 and if there was issue such as you are describing I am sure there would be more info about it on the forums. I am not disputing what you are saying I just think it's strange. Yours might be an isolated case and hopefully it's rectified now for good. [emoji4]

I would imagine it is just an isolated issue in the case of mine rather than a fault but I am now interested to see how it has been refinished out of curiousity.馃榾
I purchased it new a couple weeks after my wedding( it came in about six months before the AD was expecting one) and still have it. They are fantastic watches and surprised they didn't sell out quicker.

No, this is actually a well known issue and has been mentioned on the forum before. Mine lost the black in an "o", Omega refurbished it for me. Seems that the enamel is not necessarily sticking properly everywhere.

Could this explain the gap in the Starburst on the back? I'm skeptical there are quality replicas of this floating around, I've seen the existing ones. ALL are terrible without even considering the sub-dial spacing issue.

I don't have the watch with me right now, but looking at some of my pics, the rays of light are connected to each other with a layer of silver webbing.
Perhaps that got flaked off....

Holy smokes. That looks gorgeous! A true Moon watch!

Anyone ever change the sapphire for hesalite? Just wondering...

I would never do that personally as I always leave the watch original, I might try different strap options but that's it. I prefer sapphire anyway

I know it's a long time since I last posted on this but I finally have got the watch back and it looks just like this image with the webbing.I cannot see any flaking to it must have adhered better the second time round, unless they replaced it? I don't remember them mentioning that

Regarding the black enamel flaking off, its very common. I've look at dozens of these models and at least half of them had enamel loss. Mine did as well, I sent it in for full service to Omega and they replaced the entire caseback. The new one looks exactly like the macro shot from @ck1109 above. I don't think its that big a deal, its like the black enamel wearing off of the engraved lettering of a standard or straight writing case back. It's to be expected.

I went to the ASTP 40th Anniversary event at The Stafford Air & Space Museum in 2015. Tom had already signed the ASTP meteorite watch box, but I was able to get Alexei to sign it. Then snap a photo with them and the box. I was wearing the watch. It was a great event. Tom and Alexei got up and gave a toast. Tom toasted in Russian and Alexei toasted in English. It was a nice meal in a little restaurant just outside of Weatherford, OK.

Bumping a post from 2016, only 7 years ago. Amazing how the world has changed. What an amazing story and memory.

This reference, like so many other Speedmaster's is special. Omega did a great job with the details on the caseback and the dial.
