Just arrived today so thought I would do a show and tell. Early 2577-4 from 1949 (I think) with 351 movement and 11.79m serial. 2577s are more usually labelled as Seamster but this one isn't, no Swiss made on the dial either. I can only assume they weren't present in some markets, (this one came to me from Austria) as the dial looks pretty original otherwise. Still has the hard gasket in the back like the Seamaster branded ones. Crown is obviously wrong but that can be sorted. Runs pretty well but I will get it serviced all the same. Any further info on the model anyone would care to offer gratefully received.
I am not sure if your dial is an original 2577, because, so far, all 2577 I've seen have Seamaster printed on the dial. They also have Swiss Made, too. Maybe your 2577 is an early one? Who knows? Enjoy your watch and here is a 2577 from my collection (also powered by a 351) View attachment 336849
It is pretty early, if the serial is anything to go by it is first year of production. I guess all things are possible, it could be a franken but the dial is exactly the same as that fitted to my 1950 2577-6 other than the lack of 'Seamaster' so it feels legit. I have seen French market variations with Fab Suisse prominently higher up the dial so I am wondering if there was something weird for German or Austrian models too. I am willing to consider that it has been messed about or cobbled together but the dial doesn't look redone at all and does seem very like the later 2577 so it is a bit of a mystery. Here is my 1950 2577-6 (12.19m serial) for comparison, v similar except for the text.:
I have only seen this 2577 dial signed Seamaster and Swiss Made, or Chronometre if paired with a cal 352 also signed Swiss. Here is a link with these examples: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-cal-352-rg.43901/
Ahhh that is interesting in that the Chronometre in that thread (also a 2577-4) isn't labelled Seamaster too like mine. The serial of that watch 11,787,XXX is within a hairs width of mine which is 11,798,XXX so they are obviously of a similar time, maybe manufactured within a few weeks of each other, just one with 352 and Swiss on the dial and mine with the non certified 351 and no Swiss marking. I find that very reassuring to be honest!
Nice, that looks just like my 2577-6 above, I wonder what the actual difference between versions is. It was your 2577-4 linked to above (Chronometre, not Seamaster) so I see you have a nice collection of 2577s.
I happened on another example today. just posted in this thread https://omegaforums.net/threads/seamaster-2577-with-an-offbeat-dial.42637/#post-998400 However it's probably more appropriate here. Any thoughts on this 19 as a follow up to your 18? Legit?
My dial (without the word Seamaster) sat un-used for over 50 years. Be assured, it has not been re-finished!
Hey does anyone have any insights into how to stop the second hand on a 2577 with 351 bumper movement. Is there a trick or do I just have to wait til it is wound down and has no charge left?
Congratulations on the 200th post……in the space of just 6 weeks, since you originally joined Took me 6 years to notch up 1000…
