I hope they keep on selling the vintage ones. I own the OEM 3861 bracelet and bought the Flatlink, because I am looking for something even lighter. Hence no need for the contemporary Flatlink from my side.

I think they are planning to sell both versions, at least for a while. If I understand correctly, the contemporary one is designed for a different aesthetic, not as a replacement for their original vintage design
Oh heh, I was wondering what was going on with it. I seem to have missed that they offer it in another link, I just missed it..

Yep! We’re keeping both versions in the lineup.

I asked a guy who owns a 50th ann bracelet and he confirmed, that its thinner than contemporary flat link but sturdier than vintage one. Something in between.
“thickness is about 2mm.
the bracelett feels much more solid
than my forstner flatlink bracelett
i'm using also”

Confirmed it’s about 2mm, perhaps a hair over 2mm. See pic of my Apollo 11 bracelet below. Unfortunately I don’t have a caliper so this is the best I can do.

I think the original non-contemporary Forstner flatlink with the new milled clasp is the combination that would be the closest thing to the Apollo 11 of the aftermarket options.

Thats awesome thanks! I’ll probably throw in milled @Uncle Seiko end links (better shape imo) into the mix and get a pretty awesome bracelet!

Good catch… agree on the US end links and I have a set on the way to pair up with my Apollo 11.

One word of caution is that I read on another forum that the US solid endlinks are not compatible with the Apollo 11 so I went with the hollow ones. Not sure about compatibility with the Forstner bracelet though so can’t speak to that.

Thanks, good to know. I guess I’ll have to do some digging around before i get them.

Anyone got a link to the solid endlinks? Means they are better than the ones on the Forstner flatlink?

I would not say better, just a different shape.
You need to look at pics and decide which you personally prefer.

Realize we are getting a bit off topic here though and would just like to add that I think it’s great that Forstner continues to innovate for us with different bracelets and continues to keep giving us choices. This more contemporary version will appeal to many I’m sure. I personally can’t wait to see their version of the 3681 speedy bracelet which I understand is in the works.

Fully brushed version. Compared to the one posted a couple of pages back (polished/brushed style), the finishing on this doesn't look as refined. I'm on the fence about whether I'll wear this more than the OEM bracelet. It's a change, so it will get some wear:

Is that the contemporary flat link? I like the look of it, I had thought it would be too chunky compared to the original version.

I also have the fully brushed Forstner Flat Link (original) and I am looking to get the new clasp for it - although the brushed / polished does seem to look better finished.

Its the contemporary. I also have the first version they offered. I tried it on but found it too flimsy feeling to use. I need to sell it at some point.

I haven't handled the polished version, so I don't know for sure it is more refined. It certainly looks as much.

Forstner Flat Link arrived today for my 3861. Digging the look and it feels very comfortable. I'll have to give it the all day test tomorrow.

After going back and forth over the last few weeks, I've actually settled the contemporary. Earlier in this thread, I mentioned that I preferred the vintage model with new clasp, which I now take back. The contemporary is my preference it just took some getting used to. I do still wish the links weren't extended on the new one, but I do like the added robustness enough to not care.

I have the new clasp on its way for my original Forstner flat link.
Looking at these pictures again, I am wondering if I should have bought the new contemporary bracelet instead of just the clasp . .

Recently I was gifted new milled clasp (for which im very thankful) for my og flat link and honestly, i am so, so happy with it. It makes this bracelet truly amazing. If only the last links were true 20mm instead of 18.9mm, it is so close to being perfect.

I wouldn't worry too much. It will still be an awesome combo.
