While the 42mm Pro can still be worn on smallish wrists due to their short lug to lug, my bet is that these new smaller versions will appeal more to ladies wrists.

Yeah not my cup of tea, but, then, Omega doesn’t make watches just for me. Assume they’ve done their market research and have determined there are buyers for these.

I will say, a smaller Speedmaster generally appeals to me. I like the FOIS primarily for that reason. 38mm is pretty much the Goldilocks zone for watch sizing, IMO. If they make a Seamaster diver in 38mm, especially sans HE valve, I’ll throw my money all over them.

You're right, is this the beginning of the end for Omega? unacceptable releases

I too agree with Pastorbottle, those things would look much better without the bling. But we watch nerds are a minority, many customers like some shiny things on their wrists. So I don`t think this is the beginning of the end for Omega. On the contrary they are reaching out to a different segment of the marked than us who like the gloomy black and white of the professional series. As reverbtime said, the smaller size will appeal more to women, witch is a good thing.

Some people seems to forget that Omega take chances and make new products. Just think of the Speedmaster series 2,3,4,4.5 and others. Not that it is a big chance to set some stones on a speedy, but is kind of cool to have other choices than speedy pro. And I kind of like it, wondering if I should put some ice in the bezel of my 2254.

Zenith also does that with the El Primero:

You cannot compare Zenith el primero quality with crapped Omega Speedmaster 38mm and if you don't understand that, then you've crapped yourself in your brain

The Speedy Pro wears like a dinner plate, let’s all say the quiet part out loud- flat slab-o-metal on the wrist. It’s slick as shit, but it’s big by design- meant to be seen on the wrist while holding a steering wheel during the time of 32mm watches.

Omega did make a smaller Speedy for 20 years, the Reduced (at 38mm)- and everyone shat on it for years as not being the “real thing”, I guess hindsight is 20/20. If I owned a reduced I would probably wear it a hell of a lot more than my Pro, should have bought one when you could get them free with Happy Meal.
