Will we see any "incoming" thread in the forum?
Probably going to be awhile and all of the "incoming" will be from someone buying off the grey market for 30% + discount.

Saw the watches in the metal. Unfortunately, can't say I was impressed. The sales agent pitched it as "trying to make something new, with a distinct identity from the vintage models." I realized that this does feel a bit like someone wanted to make a new watch, but had to work within the constraints of making it 'Constellation-like'.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has picked one of these up. Haven't seen any in photos outside of a boutique, and it doesn't seem like any have hit Chrono24 or other secondhand market sites.

I've been through Schipol Airport NL twice and also walked past my local AD a few times and neither had any in stock. I found this very strange to be honest, especially at Schipol Boutique.

I viewed it in person at the Omega boutique, and was very disappointed. This is from someone who has been waiting years for Omega to reissue a proper piepan Constellation

Interestingly, I was told by my OB SA (who I trust on this/not a sales ploy/etc 😁 ), that certain OBs can't keep them on the shelf. PDX hasn't even seen one yet and he already getting requests from other OBs to send any he gets, because they are selling out in some places.

A little peak behind the curtain with him is interesting, apparently some of the models, even ones we all hate here, are super popular in some markets for some reason, and the Observatory is no different.

I saw it at the Las Vegas Bellagio boutique two weeks ago. They had 5 in the case. I didn't get the impression that they were selling fast (or at all). I was hoping to see the green dial version, but after viewing the others I wasn't interested so I didn't even ask if they had one available.

It was too big, no second hand, no date, etc etc.

I really want to love it as I've been wanting a vintage one for years and have been counting the days until it was reissued. If it was what I hoped it would be I would have bought it despite my vow to not buy another watch this year. It looked nice on the wrist but no second hand and the size were the biggest deciding factors.

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never been to the PDX boutique. Do they have a good selection of the other watches? It's much closer to me than Las Vegas!

PDX boutique is great! They have a good mix of stuff, and get interesting things in all the time. They aren't at the top of the list for 'new' things, but they have a good collection.

You're not in the Portland area, are you?

We're seeing in the watch industry with designers. The age and lived experience is totally different....
I'm wonder if Omega left off the seconds hand because many smart watches just have hour and minute? Maybe Omega thinks this will relate more to a modern generation? Just spit-balling.

My guess is that it was left off because as a dress watch, it was already pretty thick. Adding another hand would require them to make the crystal stack even higher.

I am in PDX. Also, I should add that I saw a Longines Heritage Conquest. It makes me sad to say that it was more stunning than the observatory, and it can be had in 38mm with a second hand for under 1/3 the price. Arrowhead markers, Si hairspring, 5 year warranty, etc make it very attractive to me as a dress watch.

This does surprise me, to be honest. I obviously know there is a disconnect between enthusiasts and the general public, but I thought this was a particularly bad release with how big it is and how expensive it is. It compares very poorly to competitors IMO.

Right? But another thing he mentioned in the past: All of those hideous Constellation watches (with the weird roman numerals) are apparently SUPER popular in a lot of SE Asia, which is why they won't cancel them.

For further comparison, Oris came out with a classically proportioned 1960's rerelease today for $2,300 🙃

I wish Swatch would re-assign whoever was behind the Longines Ultrachron Classic to Omega.

My sources saying they're still selling and I really like the green one (The Dr. Doom, which RDJ wore at his press junket for Doomsday), but I really can't with those prices.

Personally, I don't worry about this too much, but I do worry that the next SMP Diver 300m will be made with O-Megasteel and cost $10k.

That's also been a worry for me and is something that would upset a lot of people. The 300Ms are positioned lower than Planet Oceans and Moonwatches, so there is also a decent chance it is under $8.5k

Based on current pricing, I'd say it's going to be like $7500 but leave it to Swatch/Omega to screw it up.

I went by the OB yesterday and got to try these and the new PO's on. The PO is nice but still feels pretty big.

The Constellation looks pretty nice even with all the negativty about the size and thickness. It doesn't really feel that big on the wrist. I still wouldn't buy it at it's current price though. It would need to be at least 20% cheaper for me to think about buying.

I think about it a lot. It's not the lack of second hand, it's not the size or the thickness. It's. the. price.
