Looking at a 1966 Omega Constellation Pie Pan 14k Observatory for $1,300. Is this a good price? I'm looking for a vintage Omega with ceiling of $1,500 to spend.
If the case is solid 14K, that's a fantastic price. If just gold-capped with a gold medallion in back, then the condition must be excellent at that price. Pictures always help, gatorcpa
Pictures will really help on having more accurate assessment. If the dial is not refinished/ redial and in average condition, case is not overly polished, movement is running well and have no corrosion then yes it is a good price. Otherwise (e.g refinished dial) just pass. One more thing, there are fake gold pie pan Constellation out there. Beware.
the case back and movement? The dial looks original to me. However it has heavy patina. Some OK with it. others don't like it.
OK that's gold capped, not solid gold. At that price it is just OK/ fair/bit high. The patina in dial is the minus factor. If you are patience enough you can find in better condition. (Unless you really like the patina)
You're on the right track. You should be able to get a very nice steel or gold-capped pie-pan Constellation with that budget. The one you showed is OK, but the price is quite high given the condition of the dial and the over-polishing of the case. Just have to be patient, gatorcpa
Greatly appreciate the advice/help from you all. I'm new to the vintage watch purchase so need to do some research...don't know what dial in "good" condition looks like unfortunately. Thanks again.
