Not sure how I feel about this one, and that's ok. This watch was never made for me because of the size, I think 38 mm is a bit smaller than I would like to wear on any regular basis.

Omega definitely seems to be leaning into the "fume" style gradient dials. I'm not really sure about gray black and tan black colorways but the one thing that is true about these sorts of dials is that they do not photograph very well. It looks like the particulate size of this railmaster and the teal aquaterra is both more consistent and finer than the summer blue series, which gives a traditional gradient look. Omega has been willing to experiment and be pretty playful with their dials for decades, and it definitely results in some interesting watches.

the raillmaster has been out of place and aimless in Omega's line lately- definitely withholding any sort of judgment until I can see These in person and see where Omega is going with it.

I'm just glad Omega chose to FINALLY make a mens watch that doesn't compete with Invicta.

I kind of like the dials, but don't think this is going to be nice enough for me to spend the money. I HOPE it does well because I love the railmaster series and hope they encourage more! I'm definitely going to see if I can check one out next time I'm at the boutique though.

I used to think 39 mm was on the small side, but now I wear a 36 mm on a 7.1" wrist and I think it looks awesome. Diameter isn't everything, and the Railmaster is all dial. My Railmaster 36 dial is about the same size as my Seamaster 41, so they look visually similar on wrist despite the big case size disparity.

Anyone expect we will see more color options next year? Perhaps we will get a simple black and white soon enough.

I’d be interested in more marketing/history around the Railmaster as well. Appeal to the young up and coming workers creating new products and technologies by connecting them with their past counterparts. Sounds nice.

My guess is that more dial colors can be taken for granted, just look at AT range. However, I wouldn't bet my money on single color dials. Omega seems to like color gradients now.

a serious tool watch and should compete with the Rolex Explorer
To me, the modern Explorer isn’t a serious tool watch either. And the latest generation Black Bay 36, etc. have amped up the bling with, e.g., the new bracelets. At these price points, there might not be much of a market for serious tool watches. From what I’ve read, the Ranger isn’t exactly a smash hit.

What modern watch is a serious tool watch?

I'd say: G-Shock/other Casios. Guys in the past had to be a lot easier on their 'Tool watches' than watch users do today 😀

sorry, when I typed that I didn't realize there were other manufacturers of wristwatches. The "Omega" was silent and implied. 🤪::stirthepot:: So let me rephrase- what modern Omega is a serious tool watch first? Maybe the hesalite speedy.

There's nothing wrong with modern style-tool watches. Heck, that's how I'd classify the Summer Blue and I'll never part with mine. But- it has a completely different stylistic feel than say, a 2531 or 2254, which is a lot quieter, reserved, and still classy.

I don’t think the picture at the start of the thread was a mock-up, I think it was an actual photo from someone who had a sneak preview.
That sounds more reasonable but to think it was a wild shot in the dark the came true is cooler

What's the name of the clairvoyant who said that today Omega will release the new Railmaster?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 he/she should change job
Ehh I think I’m good, but thanks for the unsolicited advice. You may want to consider giving up posting snarky comments on online forums as a hobby

Well, I appreciate that you shared something that was a real release. I think there have been some false shares in the past.

Maybe the NTTD Seamaster?

Well,

maybe?

...but we're talking about a watch that was specifically created for a movie, and pulls the british arrow specifically to create a specific feeling of style. Can such a watch be a true tool watch first?

Omega? Speedmaster X-33 is the only one I can think of.

Other roughly comparable brands? None quite the same tool level as the X-33, but some I'd consider: Tudor Ranger, Breitling Endurance Pro, and, ... [still thinking]

More to be found among the less expensive brands: Hamilton Khaki, Tissot T-Touch, etc.

Just for the record he wasn't supposed to leak it before the official release. That was the deal: you are a good client , we show you the new rsilmaster many days before the official release but please don't leak picture prior.

Just because it was released for a movie doesn't mean it's not a good tool watch.

That is a good question. I would think this is a true tool watch even if it was designed to create a style.
