€1000 cheaper than the AT 😁

That’s got to be a good price for anyone who was looking at a AT at the moment.

Laziest release by a watch brand in a good while. Are they trying to ruin the Railmaster line on purpose? Fumé dial and PCL, get out of here.

Just wish it were fully brushed to differentiate itself even more from the AT.

I honestly don't hate the brown one. A pretty thin, 38mm watch, that is reasonably attractive. The bracelet on both seem like a waste, and the black one looks boring, but the brown with subdial isn't too bad.

I like it. I’d buy it. Cheaper and less flash than the AT. Still very nice looking given its price point and wider market preferences. Much better of a modern take than the denim dials ones IMO. The grey would be the one for me. The vintage one is nice looking, but calling it vintage it’s off putting. I’d like it more if they called it brown.

Happy that this is part of the catalogue as I was feeling there aren’t many other pieces from Omega that strongly interest me lately.

I can understand how the critiques from long time Omega/Railmaster fans, but I think it does a good job at appealing to newer watch collectors.

I’m actually glad it turned out like that because for me, it’s a hard pass. As some of you might know, I’m a huge fan of the Railmaster and Ranchero models and have featured them in various videos on my little YT channel (Favorite Things).
I don’t care for the gradient dials because with my aging eyes, legibility is paramount. I was never able to embrace this handset either and the lack of a 36mm option puts the nail in the coffin. I do find the sub-seconds version interesting as it and the 2nd generation XXL version with it are nods to the Ranchero 2990.
I'll stick to these instead....

I like where they are going with these. The display back is worth it on the scale of fun vs nods to heritage. Though I wish the bracelet was fully brushed.

I don’t fully understand the premium for the subseconds version though

These days I tend to enjoy the simple monochrome, black dial with white hands scheme. That's why I like the "boring" dials of the Explorer I, or Speedy. Legibility is one of my highest criteria when it comes watch purchases now.

Any additional complication, no matter how small or trivial, will add extra costs.

Agreed. And the beige dial doesn’t look like it’ll be easy to read in some lighting conditions.

Ya agreed of the two the small seconds is interesting. I do like the 38mm size but tbh I don’t see people going crazy over these. I was one of the oddballs who really liked the denim dial I picked one up. Just something very different thought I. Nothing wrong here just nothing overwhelming. I didn’t sleep well so I checked early on the release, pretty good mock up on the leak I gotta say with they grey dial
I don’t think the picture at the start of the thread was a mock-up, I think it was an actual photo from someone who had a sneak preview.

The sub-seconds model just seems like a Ranchero attempt. Shame there aren’t options for a non-fumé dial. Not really a design element that has meshed well with sportier watches, and can’t say it’s doing better here than a solid gloss black would.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if some ADs/Boutiques ended up getting them 'early' so that they'd have them available for sale today.

Completely agree.

A plain black option would have been high on my list for my next watch.

I can understand how the critiques from long time Omega/Railmaster fans, but I think it does a good job at appealing to newer watch collectors.

It seems to boil down to Omega positioning the Railmaster in a fundamentally different way to how watch nerds view it or want it positioned. Obviously I've spoken about my view that the Railmaster is a serious tool watch and should compete with the Rolex Explorer, Tudor Ranger and such. Omega really don't seem to be interested in that segment and don't view, market or position the Railmaster that way. Given this and the last gen, Omega seems to view the Railmaster as a way to make "fun" Aqua Terras. Can't say I like it or agree but I'm sure it probably would appeal to new collectors. I just feel like if they appeal to all collectors with a more conservative design and stop it being a Seamaster sub-brand, they might actually be able to keep it in continuous production...

Yeah, the sub seconds at six and beige lume is very Ranchero inspired. It's definitely my preferred of the two for that reason, even though I've been pretty clear I think this generation is not the best. I'd probably go Second > First > Fourth > Third in order of preference. By the way, I have seen your YouTube videos, your review formed part of my decision to pick up my 2504.52 instead of an 114270 so thanks, heh.

Speaking of YouTube, I quickly checked to make sure I got the channel name for the above right (I did, heh) and I noticed Monochrome has dropped a new Railmaster review video, with examples in hand. I skimmed the comments, looks like this is indeed a contentious release.
