Why do Omega Boutiques seem to always have the worst lighting?

I don't know, it's actually wild how bad it can be. The local here does have a nice spotlight with a different light tone in front of a mirror.

Sure, the original was around 12.5mm thick- so rebooting it in the heritage line I could probably have bought the 12.4mm thickness. But, putting it in the AT line, why isn't it 12mm? That should be doable.

Weirdly, it is in the heritage line. I agree it's more like an AT, but if you look where they placed it on the website, they see it as a heritage model. It's also why they did the super basic dial text, in keeping with heritage models.

Agree with everything else you said about thickness.

It makes the watches pop in person, all that LED spot lighting makes them look really crisp and shiny. Probably sells more. It's just terrible for photography.

I appreciate the correction, I hadn't even looked at the website. Then.. . why in the world did they give it a lyre-lug case? This is not exactly a 1960 feature of this watch. I mean, I guess technically lyre lugs appeared in the later 60s 165 and 166 line when the professional lyre lug case appeared, but my mind is blown.

I certainly don't hate the new iteration and because of it's 45mm lug to lug measurement, if I didn't have what I have, I would be interested.

However, if they had bought out a 36mm to 38mm variant of the 40mm watch, I'd be buying one ... despite it's thickness. It's a great unfussy design with interesting features.

But there's no reason to think that the new 38mm variant offers more than my 36mm variant.

And atebit, thanks for getting the pictures. They're great. Show exactly why, day to day, the 40mm watch's dial is so darned good.

Torn if I should unload my Denim Railmaster on the gray. I was able to see both the brown dial & gray dial yesterday in the metal. I’m not jazzed on the polished parts of the case vs my version that’s all brushed. But something about the gray dial’s calling me…
Keep yours….if you absolutely change your mind and must have this new version, it’ll be around, in a year or two, they will start popping up on the used market at a lower price.

Well, I took some pictures, but they didn’t really come out all that well.

The thickness/height of each watch are pretty close. I don’t think that the smaller case size of the new version significantly amplifies that though, at least to my eye.

Nice side by side shots. I’m sorry, but I’m just not a fan of the twisted lugs, to me, they make the lugs look stubby and “weaker” somehow whether fully brushed or half and half. I much prefer the straight lugs like on the Heritage Seamaster 300.

Dropped by the OB today to get a bracelet adjusted, tried both of them on. First impression is the dial colors look good, very legible, and well balanced. Personally, think an all brushed case/bracelet would have worked better with the tool watch vibe the Railmaster dial gives off. With the high polish AT case, there's not enough differentiation there to warrant picking one up atm.

I had a meeting downtown near the Omega boutique today and had a chance to take a lunch-time wander down to introduce my denim dial to its new Railmaster siblings.

The brown dial was my favourite of the two. 38mm is a nice size for a watch with these dials. It’s a really great size to wear. The Railmaster should have an all brushed finish though, and a flat link bracelet would make much more sense too.

Funny how much lighter the 38mm felt over the 40mm.

No links or pictures from me, but a reasonably well-known Chinese manufacturer just released their new Railmaster homage. Looks very faithful (not a counterfeit, so no Omega logo) to the new 38mm version except: solid matte black dial, 20mm lug width, fully brushed bracelet, 10.7mm thick including sapphire crystal. Maybe those Chinese manufacturers listen to watch enthusiasts a little more closely than Omega does.
