Preferably 36mm.
Just imagine how bulky that case would look at 36 mm wide and 13 mm thick, like wearing a bottle cap. They’d need to redesign their movement for it to work visually. So, maybe in... 2045?

…well, then your progression within the young watch culture was wrong and you'll likely be seen as a weirdo, outcast, and whackjob.
Oh dear. I really am a black sheep and take pride in being a weirdo, outcast, and whackjob. I did it completely wrong and started with a vintage Constellation when I turned 40. But back in 2011 there really wasn’t social media per se to show me the True Path. 😂

Probably because there's no big railway moment compared to the space program (moon landing and Apollo 13).

True, but the Railway’s “moment” was from c1820 to 1910- a period of transformative growth. The Railmaster was brought in to cope with the magnetic fields of diesel engines, but the nostalgia, I think, is stronger for the steam engines. I’m not sure how they’d market that without it looking like a Franklin Mint LE, but I still find it weird that the packaging and promo materials don’t dig into it a bit. Maybe a gold train engineer to stand beside the astronaut at the boutique entranceways? 😅

IIRC, the first generation Aqua Terra at 36mm was 11mm thick. That's with a coaxial escapement and a display caseback. It seems like the thickness of modern Omegas is a deliberate design decision and not the consequence of technical limitations.

Yup, that's the model I'm wearing in my profile picture. A cracker of a watch really.

This keeps getting repeated over and over and over and over again to the point that it has essentially established itself as Internet fact, but it's not correct. Omegas 88XX and 89XX movements are in the 4.6mm to 5.5 mm thickness range. That's thinner than rolex's modern no date 3130 that powers the sub.

Thicker watches can allow for taller, more interesting bezels, or a delineation between the case and bezel; a taller crystal, or an interesting side profile. All of these can be great design choices (Omega's SM300 heritage has a very attractive case). There's definitely some value in this sort of language but it has nothing to do with the movements and Omega does take some of their case sizes too far.

I’ve never seen one in person, but does anyone else remember the XXL version?

I think it was marketed as a Railmaster for a while, then as an Aqua Terra.

Something like 49mm.

A nice no date is always welcome.

I’m as curious as to pricing as I am to actually see the watch. The current 40mm reference 224270 Explorer retails for $7950 after the latest price hike.

I would hope this rings in considerably less. But lately, nothing would surprise me,

The Railmaster is 'cheaper' then the Explorer.

Traditionally yes…

But Omega has floored me with some of their prices the last few years, so like I said….I’m curious. The new lacquer AT is $7K. I’m hoping this will be $6k retail and available for closer to $5k after discount. I’d be interested at that price point.

Omega's Coaxial escapement is great but the new Rolex Dynapulse escapement is lightyears ahead so the policy pricing for Rolex watches is OK. Even the apparently new Railmaster will not be comparable to Rolex technology, on the contrary Omega will lose more and more terrain against Rolex.

OP says under $6k, fwiw.
It depends if you want with leather strap or not. Obviously the leather one will be cheaper.

If Omega charges more than 6k for the new Railmaster, this means that Swatch Group is in big trouble because somebody who works for the group, spoiled these things and shortly afterwards he was fired. Omega watches made in CHINA???? maybe it's not all a big lie

Yeah, Jeremy Clarkson was a big fan of his. I think James May bought one shortly afterwards, or it was the other way around but I'm pretty sure Jeremy was first. He's been vocal about being an Omega guy.

It's ridiculously big. Uses an Omega decorated 6498 hand wound. Here's a few piccies.
