Holy shit!! Looks like a Rush marathon for me tonight! For anyone not familiar with Neil Pert’s talent- just stream the song Limelight...you will get it.
RIP Neil!

Let the marathon in honor of Neil begin!

This may take all night!

+1 for the Macallan. My plastic album covers have long since turned to dust

OMG! I can’t believe it. I’ve admired him since I was 14 and got a drum kit back in 1980. Shocked I didn’t hear this on the news here in the US

He’s Canadian- unless he has the name Trump or Iran in his name, nobody here cares about anything else
Nor do Americans care about Prince Harry and wife moving to Canada. Well, Oprah maybe.

Fox News' Bret Baier just announced his death during the news hour, so not ignored.

It’s headline news now. Hate to admit this but I never connected with this band. Nevertheless, great drummer.

but I’m Canadian too. If you’ve never seen this, watch it. He gets the most out of the smallest kit I’ve ever seen him play

Damn I saw them at least ten times. Sad to hear. Hell of a drummer, the way he and geddy played off each other was perfect.

This is really sad news.

I hate to say it, but many of our rock icons probably won't be around in 10 or so years.

Such tragedy in his life, losing his daughter and then his wife 5 months later back in the late 90’s. Remarried and now leaves behind his second wife and young daughter. Gone far too young...

I’ve seen Rush several times, the last being a show in Toronto in 2015 during the R40 tour, which would be their last. I feel lucky to have seen the person who I consider to be the best rock drummer of all time. I was also lucky enough to see Buddy Rich in person before he passed, and to my mind the best jazz drummer of all time.

Neil was a powerhouse of a drummer...the driving force behind the band and their incredibly complex music with varying time signatures strung together with a beat that kept the songs flowing. It wasn’t music for the masses by any means, but it has played a huge role in my life.

Neil described his drumming the best I think with this...

“Like running a marathon while solving equations”

RIP...

I played in a few bands. I play bass and usually worked with the drummers unless we were doing something different playing off the lead vocals. Anyway you build up your fingers but after two hours straight they would start aching. I always had a lot of respect for the drummer behind me, flailing away for two hours while I bitched about my sore pinky

Seen every tour since Signals. Their music and lyrics have resonated with me like no other band.

Though I knew I’d never see them again, I had hoped they would have a long a fruitful retirement.

RIP Neil.

I saw Rush in Boston in 1996. They played the first side of 2112 and were so loud my ears hurt for days.
