Hate to have to hear this.

I played "Summertime Dream" on the accordion about an hour ago unaware of this sad news.

Any one who looks so young as in those videos shouldn't be 84 let a lone dead. Just makes me feel old, real old.

RIP Gordon

It looks like we are going to have an avalanche of great singers and composers dying in the next few months to a couple of years which will leave us only with the current crop of drop kick millennials that try ( but don't succeed) at making good music.

I choked up a few times this evening. Lightfoot was a songwriting talent rare beyond words. Indeed, his words - and that rich voice - gave color and context to those gorgeous melodies, ensuring they were instantly recognizable. Canada just lost an important piece of history.

As Rush’s Alex Lifeson wrote earlier tonight, ‘safe travels, Gordie, on your Carefree Highway’

Often called Canada’s second national anthem, I’ll take The Canadian Railroad Trilogy over the official one every time:

Bit harsh … The stratification of media doesn’t give the singer, songwriter much reach these days. There are some excellent singer songwriters out there. Jason Isbel and Sturgill Simpson are two that blow me away … Still I agree, we’ve lost Cohen, Prine, Bowie, Lightfoot, etc….

Heard this AM as they were speaking of his passing in the Dylan news. Always liked Gordon and when Bob Dylan calls you a great songwriter, it means something

Lying in bed this morning around 0500, a little rain squall blew through. I said to my wife “Listen… early morning rain..” I got up a bit later, read the sad headlines, picked up my guitar, and played it.

The documentary on his life, “If You Could Read My Mind”, is excellent. I think it’s on Netflix.
