Need your expertise on unsigned Seamaster

Hi all, I have bumped into a very good looking cal 491 unsigned Seamaster with a sub second. It looks great on wrist but I doubted it is redialed/ reprinted. I would like to seek you guys’ expertise about the authenticity of the watch; and if it is reprinted/ redial, does the work done reasonably and justify the price tag of USD500 for the purpose of daily wear? Many thanks in advance

The dial has been reprint. Movement looking tired. I suggest you to move on and find a better one. For $500 you could get a much better example than this. Just keep searching.

Goodluck

Redialled 2848. If you want to know the tell, it’s the style of font. That type of lettering wasn’t seen until much later than the 1950s. Search and compare with others 2848s that is if you can find a pic, the double case marks fool people into misidentifying the 2846 and 2848 models.

Many thanks guys !! Will definitely skip this one and keep searching. And btw, is there any good website with organised achieve of fonts and logo Omega used over the years? Seem much more homework needed to be done before getting my first vintage Omega.

Welcome @Alvy Singer firstly. One of the first places I started when I began my search was actually right here on this forum. It contains a thorough introduction with great detail. Another resource could be simply looking at the WRUW thread to get an idea of what kind of model interests you.

The best advice is to collect the knowledge first and then collect the watches 😀 hope that helps!
