Yes and no lol. Sort of depends on the light. But it does have an orange hue to it. I knew that before going in though. That was the word on the street. I don't look at it alone and think it looks orange. But when compared to something red you can see it is a bit of a different shade.
I know this isn’t a thread about the “red” OP, but I think it would look better with white lettering and not black. Looked at the other variations and only the green has white. Seems like an oversight to me.
Kinda has me in the mood for tomato soup Happy you were able to source one relatively quickly! Bummed for you that they wouldn’t work out a deal for the GMT
Maybe I was being unreasonable? I don't know... It was originally listed for $3850 or something like that. That morning, they had dropped the price to $3575 or something like that. All I wanted was $3500 out the door, and I told them that. That didn't seem too crazy to me.... They didn't owe me anything. But I thought that getting the OP would have helped a little.
Principle lol And they wanted $3575 (or whatever) plus tax and their 2.5% for running the AMEX. It would have been back up to about $3800 or so all said and done. Which is not necessarily a bad deal, but it wasn't a good deal. I was not planning on buying a new watch right now but I wasn't going to pass it up if the price was right, and for me it wasn't. At least not right now... I was picking up a '73 VW Squareback on Sunday so I didn't really need to be spending the extra money anyway. And again I'm not complaining. Like I said they didn't owe me anything....
It's definitely different. That is for sure. Looks pretty neat in person. Though not something I'd ever personally be after.
Ah yes good memory. The retirement party was actually postponed to November 5th. The watch was engraved last weekend and I can't say I was/am thrilled with the result. I was obviously tasked with finding the watch (again thanks to @Bizcut1) but once I had it I left the engraving to the "higher-ups" - AKA grandma and wife and mother in law. They sort of went rogue and instead of having the caseback engraved, they had the inside of the clasp engraved. While that is all fine and dandy, I think the people that did the engraving did a not so great job. I'll try to remember to get a pic since the watch is still sitting on my desk at home... As for "will it be worn?" I still don't think so lol. Like I already said he gave up wearing his day/date a couple of years ago because it was to "cumbersome" and everyone's personal favorite "I can just look at my phone". But maybe I'll be wrong.
So grandma, wife and MIL handled the engraving. This completely blows away the meme we often hear these days that if women were running things the world would be a better place. The best part is the watch back wasn't permanently damaged by that heart felt engraving. Some future owner can probably have that bumped off, or at least have the clasp replaced. We must look on the bright side of these things. Anyway, you did your part, I'd slowly exit stage left.
Did they at least suppress their laughter until after the phone call? If it's got to be a red Rolex, I lean toward the oxblood red instead of the cherry, for a man's watch. But I have no idea if that will push the limits of your budget. However I agree that Rolexes are all over the place, while a JLC has some distinction.
The engraver needs his name published here so that we can all use his superb and exemplary services, just exactly the quality you need on a $XXXXX.00 Rolex watch for posterity.
Yikes. At least it’s on the clasp and not on the case back. Earlier on in this thread I was advocating for a JLC, but having now seen this engraving I’m relieved that JLC was spared in favor of Rolex.
I'm tempted to go back there and just be like...WTF?! But what do I really care...not really worth my time. Or is it.... Looking at it here on the computer screen, enlarged, really makes it look that much worse... Should have been a red flag when they told them they could not even do our simple company logo. Which is what I wanted. I wanted the "S" on the caseback and if they could fit it, the rest of the inscription. Or some combination of logo and inscription on caseback with overflow on the clasp. This is the "S" they could not produce... Based on some inscriptions I have seen, I did not think that would be too hard. But I could be totally wrong...
Look at the bright side, now you know who can produce a nice ransom note. The kerning! The baselines! Cripes.
