Need help with my 1st Omega watch buy - Real or Fake?

Hi guys,

I recently decided that i want to buy a nice Omega watch as my first "luxury watch" as a gift to myself. I have been researching on the topic for a few weeks now. As a result I came across following watch, whereas I'm not sure wether the watch is authentic and original. Here are some photos:

Text from the owner:

"Case Back needs to be changed since pie pan logo ist missing (I bought it that way). Back cases can be bought online for round about 150 EUR, thats why I am seeling under value. Watch is in very good condition considering the age, however a small service will not hurt in the near future"

I like the look of the watch, but when comparing it to the other Constellation pie pan models that I found, this watch doesn't have the "Swiss Made" letters on the bottom at 6 o'clock. Added to that the second and minute hands are going way over the inner circle of the pie pan dial, which isn't usual either.

--> Are there any models that don't have the "swiss made" letters or is this a giveaway, that this watch is fake?

I would really appreciate your opinions since I am new to the topic.

Best regards
Anton

Unfortunately the watch is a redial with incorrect hands fitted. Incorrect crown as well.

Welcome @Rabbithd

You did well to ask the space for a second opinion on this one - there's a lot that's not right with this watch. In addition to the redial, and incorrect hands and crown mentioned above, the caseback is wrong (which was mentioned in the note from the seller). Further, the movement caliber (565) was not used on these earlier Constellation models (it was used only sparingly in certain models from the 1970's I believe - which this "version" is not).

So to answer your question of is it authentic? - the answer is certainly not. If you're after a Constellation specifically, I'd encourage you to check out the thread on vintage constellations to get a sense/instinct of what good examples look like - https://omegaforums.net/threads/vintage-constellations-show-and-tell.19186/

Read up as much as you can, and if ever you have any questions on a piece, reach out to the forum before pulling the trigger. Lord knows this group has saved my hard earned money from being wasted on several occasions.

I think it is a complete fake, not just a franken.

Case and caseback, dial, hands - everything except the movement, which never existed in this type of Constellation case (should be a 50X-series, not a 55X)…

I agree, it looks like a complete fake. The caseback looks machine turned in some workshop, the dial... don't know where to start... the logo is too high, the proportions are off, the indexes are nothing you'll ever see on a connie... the hands look like someone cut them by hand in a thin metal plate...

Plus always beware when a seller states that "you can buy this for a few bucks on ebay and double the value but I don't have time myself for this"

To me the case itself and especially the lugs look like they were manufactured yesterday. You did good for posting questions here and for sure you will find something nice and SAFE on this site's sales forum.

Hi Anton,

I’d be interested to know where it was that you 'came across' the watch, and it’s erudite seller.

I agree that It´s a complete fake. I enhanced one pic. The case has probably been manufacured and finished by a machine only without any signs of craftsmanship... (Polishing maybe 😁)
