Need Help about Vintage Omega Guilloche Dial

Hi guys newbie here!

Got this Vintage Omega Guilloche Dial that i think quite unique and interesting, ive seen a lot of honeycomb dial and other texture dial ect but nothing like this. its on cal 420 and the ref num on the caseback is 2647-1.

i know the dial is not in great condition but this dial texture is just mesmerizing to me

The dial texture might be original, but it has been repainted, which makes it pretty much undesirable for 99% of collectors.

What I think happened here is that someone tried to clean this dial improperly. The result was that most of the original printing and radium is gone.

While I’m not a lover of redials and agree that it kills collector value, this is a candidate for a proper redial. You will need to find someone with access to a 1950’s style Omega font. Something like this:

While it will never be perfect, the watch will then be recognizable as a vintage Omega.

I would not let ppl get you down about the watch. It is a rare and attractive dial style. Not all omega buyers are after original dials and cases that still show all original wear and tear.

I understand those that prefer the museum piece omegas, they are great, but this watch will look amazing on wrist with a proper dial refinish and to 90%+ of future owners will be prized, watch collectors excepted.

If it were mine, I would get it redone and enjoy the piece for what it is.

I see thanks for the comments man, yeah its unfortunate right! i haven't seen this texture dial before so i think it might be quite interesting

Yeah unfortunately right! thanks for the pointers man, do you know any professional painter that you could recommend?

Amen brother, i like the way as is right now tbh, that dial is just capture me, but if i could find a professional to get a proper re-dial i might consider it. just wondering have you seen this guilloche dial before tho, i could only found 1 pic in the internet as well

Personal opinion only, I don't expect it to be popular:

Assuming GatorCPA is correct, the dial was improperly washed, but not repainted, I would leave it and enjoy it as is. If the dial is missing some original paint, I would be content if the paint that is on there is factory original. You can always have a dial repainted in the future, but you can never go back once it's been repainted.

Plus, I think the ghost Omega signature is cool:

It hasn’t been repainted just inappropriately cleaned.

I would leave as it is - ghosted omega logo is better than a bad redial.

I hear you man, bring up a good point there about a repainted dial!
yeah its kindda like if you want to look at it its there but otherwise will got lost in the dial
