A couple of shots of the common spotted- orchid ( Dactcylorhiza fuchsia ) named after the heavily spotted leaves, here in the UK. One of the mid summer flowering wild orchids.

A broad-bodied chaser dragonfly at a local nature reserve. I was hoping to get a few shots of a white-tailed eagle that’s in the area, but this little fella was less camera-shy.

Spent a couple days camping at Cape Perpetua and checking out all sorts of tide pool critters.

There was also a pair of grey whales at Thor's well and they got within 12 or 15 meters or so of the rocks there. Unfortunately I didn't get any good pictures but it was quite a sight

A Bob cat in my state. These things look like house cats at a certain age and then grow into these furry monsters. I know it’s not a bobcat but my state denies we have mountain lions so everything is a bobcat

Were these taken with the drone?
Yes I’m sure I can do better but I caught the tail end of golden hour. I also had some interesting ones that got lost in transfer but such is life. I had a good “reveal” that had the drone climbing the mountain and then boom vanilla sky but the video was too big to transfer. I still got a lot to work up. I can’t say how many meters I was up but I made sure the airspace was safe.

I’ve had good success with data recovery software in the past. Give it a go.

Just out of interest, you mentioned in an earlier post about being questioned by a law enforcement officer when you were flying your drone. In the UK the CAA set the regulations, but they are legally binding, so any drone activity is potentially subject to police scrutiny. Is this not the same in the US?

It’s confusing here in the U.S. these recreational drones have to weigh below 249 grams to be “recreational” anything heavier requires a more advanced license which I took (FAA test)

I get not flying over a municipal reservoir or sensitive area however town pass ordinance that really aren’t within their purview as the skies are governed by the FAA. However it’s big money to walk into court and say “this law has no teeth it is not legitimate”. I can see many cases where that could be done but I don’t think anyone fought one yet. There are plenty places you can fly without issue I see no reason to make a big deal.

I don’t know if I am answering your question even that one run in I had with the law ended positively. Maybe he made an error thought I was flying over a reservoir.

So I can’t take off in parks or nature reserves but I can take off at a trail head and fly over them. I think it’s a case of technology moving faster than the law.

I do know here in certain areas I can fly 400meters but when I was visiting China I think it was 12 meters high and if you mistakenly film a government building you are in a world of hurt.

Hopefully it will all come together and make sense but I have heard the U.S. is much more lax than Europe for now.

It sounds like the UK & US are similarly aligned concerning our respective aviation authority regulations and the resulting confusion/nuances - and the restrictions are tightening in the coming years.

Like you, I have the relevant flyer/operator I.D’s, but I honestly think our legislative departments would prefer that nobody flies models/drones for recreational purposes full stop.

Happy flying, and keep posting them pics 👍

Funny as you typed that I took a quick hike around a tree infested area. Very beautiful. Is DJI the drone to have in the UK? It kinda sucks they are tied into the genocide and mass surveillance in China. I’m not trying to start a political thing, I’ll be in China again in a month or two.

These papers written by NGO do seem to link DJI with Chinese military. Why can’t we just have fun with an item and not have it get tied up in international intrigue? It’s not like the U.S. government is saints but alas we must separate the government from the people.

With the force of gravity being constant these little drones are amazing I wish there was a little more competition in the recreational drone department but china got 90% of the market. That is smart in my eyes. What American company would not want 90% of the market.

Let me note a question mark about my comment of genocide and surveillance as I have no direct evidence other than papers I’ve read and I believe little of what I read and almost nothing I see. Oh well, guess I’ll pick up my Chinese made guitar strum some chords as I watch the World Cup.

They’re probably the most popular brand among pro/amateur photographers and filmmakers. There are several bricks and mortar outlets for DJI over here, and from what I’ve read they stand by their warranty claims.

There’s nothing wrong with a Chender or Chibson 😉 I have a USA Les Paul Studio, and as much as I love it, I can’t really see any difference between the build quality of that and some of my cheaper, Taiwanese made guitars.
