Spent the past week in Corolla Beach NC. Being from Florida, I'm used to the beach - but not used to horses on the beach.

A blue tit 'sunbathing' at my local reserve. Taken with a long telephoto lens, so I didn’t need to disturb this little fella.
There’s a few reasons why birds might do this, but on on warm days it’s most likely to encourage ticks and lice to evacuate before they overheat and die.

Five of us recently went on a 9 day raft trip on Beaver Creek in central Alaska. Several times we took side trips hiking from the boreal forest along the river where there were good access routes to climb into alpine areas. We arranged for a bush plane to land on a gravel bar at the end of the trip to take us back to the starting point. Here are some flowers I saw as we ascended on one of those days. On most gravel bars that we camped on, there were tracks of wolves, black bears and moose. Fortunately, there were only recent tracks and we did not see them where we camped.
I used to live in Alaska in the late 70's. Those aren't bear tracks, they're mosquito tracks.
