It’s all about preference! I think I’d rather see a NATO on a vintage dive watch than leather - but everyone’s taste is different. NATO’s are also such a great piece of kit for cheap which really helps

I'm starting to prefer a good nato. Looks sporty, dresses down a nice watch for daily wear, and super comfortable.

I even put my giant, 16.5mm thick Sinn on one.

BUT, I do not like the Tudor natos on the Black Bay series. I think they make the watch look ridiculously tall. Looks good on the BB58 though.

I’m a committed member of the NATO coalition for sure. That sales post is the only time I’ve seen a strap installed in such a way that a ring is clanging against a lug like that. I’ve never had that happen, although I gather that wearing two watches on the same wrist is not recommended practice.

Some watches just look right on a nato.
I have never seen a strap bar touching a lug. So many different vibes can be finessed with colours.

I have a few vintage watches on NATO straps, and I've never found that the loops can contact the case when installed correctly.

I was duely surprised,.it now sports a after market Lange buckle, (sourced from Russia) this " saves" the original strap and buckle.

Well, technically speaking, only two of those are on NATO straps.

No Patek lugs were harmed in the making of this photo...

Only my eyes were.

*I'm a fan of NATO straps but some watches just don't belong on them in my opinion. Maybe the Aquanaut, but the others not so much

What if I told you....

That there's a solution to the unsightly metal keepers?

😁

(The Autavia is one of those watches I don’t prefer on NATOs but this one still has its caseback sticker)

Agree the leather keepers are neater, but isn’t the leather thicker than the nato material, hence the watch will sit higher? Perhaps that’s the compromise?

May I ask where you got the beige and navy blue ones on the left of your first picture?
Interesting textures, nice flat hardware too, never seen straps such as those.

Yep - because the lug holes are cut right at the end and low down it exposes the whole case nearly. Not a good look at all IMO and same for leather straps too
