whenever I see a nice watch, and especially a nice Vintage watch on a nato style strap I cringe. it's those metal loops that have the potential of slapping against the lugs. some pics even show them in fact contacting each other. my reaction to these images is like hearing fingers against a chalk board. some of these watches pictured are obviously worn by owners that should know their collectible watch lugs are getting whacked and marked up by the pointless style strap. the other thing that gets me is wrist shots of valuable watches with some sort of metallic wrist jewelry slapping against it. there should be a law
I don’t really agree with any of this. If you put the NATO on correctly this shouldn’t be a problem......plus a Speedmaster belongs on one.
okie dokie but that's you. however on this very site in the sales section I spotted a quite rare and valuable watch with the metal loop clearly in contact with lugs. makes me wonder if people even consider this.
I’ve been wearing watches on NATO straps for decades without lugs getting “whacked and marked up”... Much ado about nothing really...
On the wrist? I pulled the head all the way against the loop off the wrist but this is the "best" I could do actually on the wrist.
well hey if y'all like that style strap then all the power to ya! they just aren't for me as I worry about metal-to-metal contact with my vintage watches. here's a super sweet watch on the sales section sporting a nato style. https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-seamaster-300-14755-circa-1962.107095/
I wondered about this as well until I tried one; thought for sure it would slip around on the strap - never did! The thing that got me was how high the 2 layers made that particular watch sit off my wrist. So comfortable though. I'll probably pick one up again for a different, thinner watch.
NATO's are the bestest ever strap for any watch!!! No Patek lugs were harmed in the making of this photo...
Glad to help out and hey as long as my posts get a reaction from Al it's all good. Sitting in my mom's basement typing on the internet sure beats going outside to play since it's raining here in Connecticut
