BLOW UP is absolutely spot on: Heart of Darkness is an amazing piece of documentary filmmaking in (its own right). As the backstory/counterpart to Apocalypse Now, it’s just next-level!

Oh it be!

Here's a couple more screenshots that are also relevant to our interests:

still don’t know the answer to this one, but the bread crumbs led me here:

The very first photo was so familiar. But I could not recall until more hints were dropped.

It makes me super happy to read this! Glad I started the thread 😀

Good guesses based on his build, but think Lobsters and Banshees 😉

Apparently, it wasn't Banshees.. ?/?

Tough one then. This scene. I remember it like I was in the room with them! But this time of year I watch too much football and not much else so I cannot make it out. Football on my brain!

No it’s not banshees, but I did just watch that again over a coffee and croissant this morning 😁

Did you see me in that room?

Edit. Dirty dozen shot not part of the game.

Oh my god.. I remember seeing this in the cinema and I thinking, it couldn't get any more monotonous or monosyllabic, but then I saw Lobster which was thoroughly recommended to me by a number of people, and then I realized I was really very wrong.😲

The Dead Zone??? Doesn't strike me as Deer Hunter 🤔

Two very good guesses, I think in both Dead Zone and Dear Hunter his hair is a bit longer if I'm not mistaken😉

Haha, yeah the ending of The Lobster is probably a foreshadowing to what some did in the theater before the movie ended, lol. I haven't seen Poor Things, but thus far, The Favorite is, well, my favorite of his films.

Yeah, def not Deer Hunter, but back to the drawing board!

Now you're talking, The Favorite was wonderful, I remember seeing that one in the cinema also, not really into costume dramas so much, but this was beautifully crafted, very funny, laugh-out-loud funny, and fantastically acted especially by Olivia Coleman, and Rachel Weisz's character was genius, and she played it perfectly, possibly the best role I've seen her in on film; I do remember her being mesmerizing at the Almeida theatre where she played an artist exploiting her patron, it was very a very dark tale and she was brilliant in it.

I have been a massive fan of Apocalypse Now since it came out. I've been close to watching some of the other versions (I even bought the redux on DVD), but I never could end up watching them. I was afraid of exactly what you experienced. The original theatrical release is soooo good. I can't imagine another version doing anything but ruining the movie.

I'll check out the documentary. I've heard it's good from several people, so I am sure I would like it.

Yes really, do yourself a huge favor and never, ever, ever see any of them other than the original..
The additions haunt me to this day, whenever I have re-watched the original or whenever thinking about, quoting, or making reference to the original.

Yes, the documentary is genius and importantly, didn't ruin the film in any way shape or form for me,
but rather enhanced it, as the making of is a warzone in itself, and quite literally at some points.

Yeah, with the exception of Amadeus and Barry Lyndon, I don't generally go in for them, but it was really well done.
Theatre sounds like a really fun and unique experience, as much as I love film I have very little experience with seeing anything on the stage.

Also, I need more cowbell, or another screenshot of the Walken flick above!

Yeah for sure, two other great examples Amadeus and Barry Lyndon that are an exception to the usual rule..
Theatre can be wonderful but can be bloody expensive, although most theaters here now have reduced-price nights, and budget-friendly seats which is vitally important. It can also be a massive disappointment (though I've not had too many of those) so I tend to be fairly selective unless I get comps, which lessens the blow a bit if it turns out to be crap😁

Okay so the film is incredibly well-known so it's actually really difficult to select stills that won't just give it away immediately😉
but here are two more:

Another still from the same scene as previous, but there are more clues:
