Think I recognize the actor on the right as either the guy that played the gay Hillbilly in Ozark, or it could be Jesse Plemons with a beard??

I'm at a total loss on this one, but am loving this whole thread. Such a celebration of cinema!
It makes me super happy to read this! Glad I started the thread 😀

Good guesses based on his build, but think Lobsters and Banshees 😉

The one I remember with Brendan Gleeson is "The General". Really funny Irish ganster film. Is that it?

That's the John Borman film, also starring John Voight ..I'm almost certain he's clean-shaven in that.
..and I'm pretty certain he doesn't have a beard in In Bruges.. I'm stumped though..
It actually really doesn't look that much like Brendan Gleeson in the picture he looks very diminutive and his gate looks different; Brendon Gleason is a big chap with a very distinctive gate👎

It's definitely not In Bruges, I'd have recognized it. The mystery endures!

Whilst we're pondering that one.. here's one that shouldn't be too difficult 😉 MV5BYjdkODY3ZjItMjY3Yi00Y2ExLWJiYzUtNjFmMTFiZmQ3NGYxXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTI3MDk3MzQ@._V1_.jpg

Is that Jerry's boy, ages ago? in Empire of the Sun?
Spot on!! ..and what a great film!, I think it's my favorite of all Spielberg films, and pretty faithful to Ballard's semi-fiction semi-autobiographical novel, here's a very nice little video of Ballard speaking about his time in Shanghai:

Here's a fun one for Friday:

I so regret seeing all four different versions of this, as the best by far is the original theatrical release.
Each new version only takes something away it doesn't add anything at all other than frustration bewilderment and incongruousness.. Robert Duvale's portrayal of the Lieutenant Colonel was genius, but to hear him calling out from a helicopter wanting his surfboard back over and over was utterly ridiculous, together with all of the other additions, that only subtracted from its greatness.

That being said, Hearts of Darkness made by Francis's wife Eleanor is one of the best making-of documentaries films I have ever seen, and if you haven't seen it I wholeheartedly recommend it, it's a truly great film in its own right.

This is from a fairly well-known film but these two characters on not the main protagonists, as this would probably give it away immediately

I have been a massive fan of Apocalypse Now since it came out. I've been close to watching some of the other versions (I even bought the redux on DVD), but I never could end up watching them. I was afraid of exactly what you experienced. The original theatrical release is soooo good. I can't imagine another version doing anything but ruining the movie.

I'll check out the documentary. I've heard it's good from several people, so I am sure I would like it.
