I think that’s missing a zero or two

This reminds me of the old stat that said something to the effect of 70% of men admit they masturbate and the other 30% lie about it.

Sudoku books aren't very expensive, $255 buys a lot of cheap paper Sudoku books, along with a couple of pencils.

Sounds about right if you hobby is collecting new pennies by paying cash whenever you are at a store.

My wife does linocut printing- $255 is 4 packs of paper, and a tin of ink.

This topic comes up semi-regularly in the audiophile world, and I repeatedly make this point:

Many of those who would likely be shocked by the costs of higher-end stereo systems think nothing of paying $40-$100k for a car. I purchased a used 2010 Audi with <50k kilometers on it, for less than €10,000, am perfectly happy with it, and get vastly more pleasure listening to a high-class stereo system than I would driving a newer car that would cost 4-10x, not to mention insurance.

I had a 2006 A3 until a few months ago when a city sewage truck took it out while parked- timeless and bulletproof era for them.
And agreed- how much disposable shit do people buy at Target or Walmart and then raise an eyebrow when you start talking about hobbies.

The beauty about audio these days is amps and digital sources are super cheap, so costs are mainly limited to the loudspeakers and room treatment. And if you primarily listen on headphones, you can get by spending on a couple/ few hundred $ and improve them with PEQ.

Bullet proof, but not sewage truck proof, it would appear that bullet proofing wasn't what was needed for your car, sewerage truck proofing would've been a better bet!

I still like that old book on Photography. From like the 1950s.

"Open your billfold and remove a fifty dollar bill. Drop it out the window. That is what your photography hobby will feel like."

Anyone want to hazard a guess what 50 bucks is now with inflation? from an era when one could fill a tank of gas for a few bucks?

At least I do not have to buy pre made straps. Then again branded buckles can be pricey.

All about rolling mass- truck was parked, brakes failed and it just rolled down the street.

Apart from Watches, and a recent little obsession with fountain pens, my other main hobby is running.
It's a minimum cost hobby, most of the required equipment can be picked up in the sales, if you don't need the latest high tech shoes, which most people don't, 225 dollars would stretch to a pair of shoes and maybe new shorts and a running top.

Personally I think hobbies should be measured in enjoyment and not dollars. You can't put a price on that.

Ahem ( Chronic cough starts ...) , my Audio cables cost more than your suggestion ... Things change considerably with optimizing steps for listening to Vinyls ... Forget Digital sources.

Like performance cars, the pursuit of that last 10% increases the cost by 1000%

...and then there is vibration control (which actually can make a tremendous difference on revealing systems)

High end audio is totally wasted on me with my industrial deafness and a constant high pitched ringing in my ears that sounds like feedback!
