And she won’t tell me how much she spent.

Is this my chance to buy another watch!?!?!?!
What brand? Size type color……. I presume I missed the memo concerning purses and watches. I should have a drawer full of Rolex/Omega watches if this is the relationship.

Well I’ve done my research and if price parity is the strategy then we’re looking at a reasonably priced Longines or similar. I’ve also been eying some 90s era manual wind El Premiros that might also fit the bill.

Of course if we dive into it then she could ask what some of my other watches cost and I’m not sure there’s a handbag equivalent that saves me.

We have to play this just right, gentlemen. There’s no room for error.

I'd tread carefully. This could easily escalate into the domestic household equivalent of the nuclear arms race.

😳 I thought it might be high, but wow!

For some reason Tote bags seem to keep popping up in my algorithm chosen adverts.
Prices of those seem insane for what I thought used to be a simple merchandising gift just a few years ago. Zero design evolution, as far as I can see.
We live in interesting times.

It's been half a lifetime away since I had anything even approaching a wife so "I know nothing" but, would playing the guilt game as long as possible move you to safer territory? She might even suggest you buy yourself something. Eventually, maybe 🤣

Beware.......Thar be Dragons! She will rationalise the purchase by reasoning the she NEEDS another handbag as the dozens she already has, wont cater adequately for her requirements, whereas you only desire another watch!
You have been warned!

All good food for thought. Presently, I’m thinking to bank this pawn for a future move. If I can aggregate a couple more flimsy financial arguments, we could be looking at a real “walkin around” watch. Perhaps not precious metals but maybe something with a Peanuts character on it.

And I’m sure we can all agree that everyone wins. A less principled person might mistakenly think I have convened an assembly of rouges and scoundrels to help me contrive an excuse to buy another watch.

I think that is a wise strategy. Let her think she won this round, maybe another few pair of shoes, and then down the road, bam, gold Speedy.

Now she has the bag, you can expect a whole new outfit and shoes to match the bag!
And then she'll need new warpaint to carry around in the new bag as he current lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow and whatever else to detail and touchup her dial is considered essential in order to venture out in public!

Tote bags are fine, if you start seeing divorce lawyer ads, that's your sign to be worried, happened to a good mate a few years back.

Okay let’s just be honest here. How can an object like this cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars? It’s a simple utilitarian object that should be valued for the useful function it performs.

And I’m not buying the whole “crafted by European artisans from the finest quality materials with the highest degree of precision and finishing from a storied brand” spiel. That’s just marketing poppycock from luxury conglomerates to get your money.

This on the other hand…

…is a precision instrument crafted by European artisans from the finest quality materials with the highest degree of precision and finishing from a storied brand. And it’s not just useful. Sure you can get objects that perform the same functions for much much cheaper, but this is an expression of the wearers taste, style, sophistication, and sexual prowess.

I mean there really isn’t anything to debate here.
