Another Speedmaster Professional, which has been presented here sooo many times. Nevertheless, I would like to introduce you to my new entry here. I think it is entertaining and also useful for those who are also looking for a .022 from the period 1968 to 1978. There are more or less big differences that I would like to point out here.

First of all to the question of why I really wanted to have a moonwatch. I was born on November 23, 1963, one day after the assassination of J. F. Kennedy. Actually, I should come a little later, but my mother was so excited that she had to get rid of me. I still remember the first moon landing very well. The start with the monstrous scaffolding, the huge Saturn V, the coupling maneuver of the ferry with the command module, the landing itself and the return of only the upper part of the ferry. The entrance, the radio silence and then the rescue helicopters are well remembered. I was almost 6 years old and spent long hours watching TV with my dad. I was fascinated by all this

In addition, relatives came from Houston, a personal acquaintance of my mother with Wernher von Braun and therefore a friendly relationship of our family with the American people. At that time our family was already very USA-affine. The parents also had the third empire and then experienced the liberation in their youth. The Americans also had sweets in oposition to Adolf who had nothing. Today I relativize a lot, but then it was just like that. The moon landing was as memorable for me as the fighting of Muhammad Ali. To be able to see them, we children also got up at night and looked at them with our dad. In short, these were already the highlights of our childhood and somehow much closer to us than the 68 riots or the Vietnam War. I have only just remembered the later RAF attacks.

Actually, a real Moonwatch would have to be a 145.012, because it carried Buzz Aldrin on the first mission. Armstrong had left his for safety in the ferry, as the Broduhr had broken on the descent to the surface. The .012 has the legendary ratchet caliber 321, which is now being reissued by OMEGA. Unfortunately, these watches are very high traded, so it has only served for me for the successor, the .022, for me.

The 145,022 was first introduced in 1968 and had the same components as the .012 in the version mentioned in this transition except the movement. These were mainly the Step Dial with attached logo, DON Lunette and the Drop Chrono pointer. As a movement, the newly developed 861 was used. From the 145.022-69, the Speedmaster Professional had a printed logo on the dial and a counterweight square-shaped chronograph. All watches up to this time had on the ground cover only the hippocampus and the writing Speedmaster. Only then came a 145.022-69 Straigt Writing and then from the 145.022-71 the bottom engraving we know, with minor changes, until today. The change from the DON to the DNN Lunette was also done on the model 145.022-69. There are therefore two versions of this model. All later versions (except special models) have a DNN bezel. However, these are also different. However, these are little details that would go beyond the scope here. Roughly one can say that from 1970-1994 they had no accent on the "e", after this came back.

Within the model series 145.022-74 the dial dial changed over to the flat dial. There are different statements and sources, but it seems that there are also step dials. Mine, however, has a flat dial. Also in this period the brake was changed from metal to Delrin. Mine also has the Delrin brake. In conjunction with the serial number 39.180.xxx, I can assume one of the last 145,022-74 produced.

This watch was offered to me by a user from here, after I presented and discussed a watch offered to me there. It immediately put me under its spell. Everything seems to be unchanged original, it has a great yellow aged Lume, the very old 1171 band with trapezoidal logo and in addition there was also a great box and a certificate. Accordingly, it was delivered to Ostafrica on November 25, 1976, ie two days after my 13th birthday ... Simply a great overall package, I had to have it.

I was lucky, the provider lives in Europe and last weekend we met at a motorway service area and made the deal fix. Not only did I get a dream watch, but I also met a lovely person. Here are the photos of the watch:

thanks for sharing. I love reading stories about the hunt or why certain watches are significant in a person's life.

Thank you so much for all your kind comments!

Just made a lumeshot. Lume doesn't last long so it's not easy. I noticed the lume on the minute marker is the lowest. Does it look OK?
