That's a great narrative and a beautiful example of the Speedmaster. Glad you found it.

It's nice to read of your acknowledgment of the OmegaForums seller.

We really can't ask you the question: "Do you recall where you were and what you were doing when JFK was assassinated," can we? Sure makes some of us feel our age when you young whippersnappers show up.

Great story, wonderful watch. Have a lot of fun with it. The Moonwatch is my favorite watch at the moment. And I like such stories and pictures.

This watch was offered to me by a user from here, after I presented and discussed a watch offered to me there. It immediately put me under its spell. Everything seems to be unchanged original, it has a great yellow aged Lume, the very old 1171 band with trapezoidal logo and in addition there was also a great box and a certificate.

Congratulations for finding such a beautiful package, including the box. The 1st edition of MWO shows a box from the 1970s with what looks like a similar exterior as yours but with a different red and white interior. You might have a rare box there.

Your enthusiasm is obvious, and that's the best thing about having any watch that makes you smile. It's a great example from that era. Enjoy it.

I bought my Speedy for the same sentimentality, but I wasn’t born yet. When I was 9 my father gave me my first “big-boy” watch, an old silver Seamaster he had laying in a drawer. While he was punching a hole in the strap and putting it on my wrist he said “An Omega is the watch that went to the moon”. I lost that watch within a few weeks (who gives an omega to a 9 year old...well, my dad), and shortly after he died I came across a Speedmaster with the moon back and bought it on the spot. Yeah dad, it went to the moon, and I have one now.

Great great story! I now own a -71 with similar sentimentality. The kicker for mine is the serial hit my birth month and year! Couldn’t pass it up.

Nice story - I have almost the same 145.022 -74 with a serial number in the 39 million range just like yours, produced on October 13 1976 according to my extract of the Omega Archives. It's only a month older than yours, and I was 14.5 yr old when it was produced (similar age as you). I was heavily into building model rockets during the early NASA years, and the moon landing left a big impression on me.

It came with the original mildly stretched 1171/633 bracelet but no box or papers. I bought a new spare bracelet to preserve the original, plus a nice Omega leather strap with deployant clasp that's on it now. It keeps perfect time too, but it's due for another service this July.
