Looks even better than the auction photos. Just incredible!

Thanks. I bought the watch just relying also on the auction pictures. So when I first saw it, I was floored by its condition.

That is an incredible watch. Congrats OP!!

For me, vintage Rolex at this stratosphere is so alluring yet soooo scary. Doubt I'll have the courage to dip my toes in Bakelite anytime soon. Takes true expertise to grab an awesome example such as this!

My 1675 says hi (just to add to the Rolex love here on OF)

Fantastic pick up! Interesting to see that the dial appears printed rather than gilt/galvanic. Also seems to be the case for the albinos. Wonder if it because these were early/test dials. One of the many questions that Rolex will never answer. 😀

Happy holidays -- A

My dealer arrived from Hong Kong last night together with my 1956 Rolex GMT 6542 Red. Today i went to his store today and saw the watch for the first time.

It blew me and took my breath away. The condition of the watch is ourstanding from the unpolished case, minty dial and near perfect bakelite bezel. It was a joy to wear it for the first time. Couldn't wipe off the smile on my face.

Its the best ever birthday and Christmas gift to myself in a long while. Truly happy for this watch to be part if my collection.

I took a photo of the 6542 together with its younger siblings.

Big Congrats!

Beautiful piece, I'd be afraid of wearing it in case the bakelite gets knocked!

Someone told me that the bakelite bezel itself is at least USD 20k. Not sure if that is true.

And that set...and condition of the bakelite bezel...I think it is one of the best GMT ever seen!!

In other words, this is a franken with some important parts not period correct?
