Yes, it is not a Seamaster 120 dial, it's from another watch and reprinted (incorrectly) to look like a Seamaster 120 dial.
The hands are also completely incorrect.

Not impossible, but actually really hard. They are out there but you really have to do your homework- hence good on you for being part of this thread...much to learn here.

Once you spend some time learning about Omega’s you learn that they were, if anything, very consistent in their designs and layouts. Sure there were a few oddities here and there (particularly in the 50’s), but for the most part- fonts, lume style and color, indices, bezels, script placement and line weight, case and crown shapes- are all very consistent. Learn your hunted model well, look at as many pics as possible of known correct examples (ones from members here are usually a safe bet), and become educated enough to be able to spot the details that send up red flags. Eventually you won’t even linger in a listing that looks off- you’ll know it’s wrong and keep looking.

Thanks for the help guys and @JwRosenthal ^^ gorgeous. The example I'm looking at is from a private sale and it appears to be the same watch sold by Jack Wong, which was discussed on page 13 of this very thread.

I originally posted the Jack Wong watch, I found it on Rolex forums. I actually contacted Jack and he gave me the low down on the watch. With that being said, I still passed, I could not get over the prestige bezel condition, you would really need to see it in person to make accurate judgement on its authenticity.

@Watchout312 - Thanks. I've read all your posts here and on WUS regarding the watch.

yes, I was looking for a while before I found a good one. There out there, just be patient and post what you find to this thread, you will get honest advice and avoid costly mistakes.

here is mine.

Back looked kind of cartoonish... I thought the mane of the hippocampus needed more stripes...

The case back look off because of that brown sludge that is harassing it.

The seconds hand is a replacement. Other than that, it look like a ok example.

Thoughts on this 165.027? In particular, the hands, dial, and bezel all look to be in excellent condition with appropriate, matching patina. From what I can tell, the dial appears to be original (i.e., white text, matte texture), though I wish the pictures were a bit better quality so you could fully analyze the printing. Hands also appear to be original with the correct, white seconds hand. Bezel is in excellent shape with light wear and intact lume pip matching the patina of the dial and hands. Case and crown look to be genuine as well. Difficult to analyze the case back with the sticker (original? service?) on it, and no movement pic...

Hi Folks, I'm new to this site but I've been an Omega fan since my teens (now tipped over the wrong side of fifty!) when my dad bought me an auto Genveve, which I still have.
Ok so you may have seen this on eBay, I took the plunge on the understanding that I could return if not satisfied. I fully appreciate the dial is all wrong, and not sure what it's from? I think the case has been over polished, replacement crown that looks right I think? Replacement crystal too, hands look right to me, as does the back. I think it's largely authentic, less the dial but had a hard life and poor repair? Any thoughts?!
