Even the Mona Lisa’s falling apart.

Yep. And not so easy to simply buff up a Leonardo.

I have a few vintages with acrylic crystals, and it's astonishing how refreshed they can look after a few minutes' work. A few years ago I owned a pair of Sinn fliegers (356 and 103(, one with sapphire and one with acrylic -- and ended up having to replace the sapphire, at significant cost.

I love acrylic, such a different look and feel than sapphire. I have an OPD and an Airking with acrylic and sapphire respecively- the acrylic has a warmth and depth to the dial and the sapphire looks cold and sterile. Granted, the sapphire is crystal clear with no edge distortion- but no glow either. I have actually been tempted to get an acrylic crystal for my Airking.
Keep beating on that Speedmaster, buff until you can’t buff anymore, then just replace the crystal- rinse and repeat. These things get better with age.

No worries about it, as simple and immediate solution, some super thin sand paper and then poliwatch will solve the problem and plexi will look brand new again, doesn’t look like a deep or major scratch.
Enjoy your speedy and relax about it, you have there a work horse made to be worn. And very easy to keep nice all the time, as long as you decide to wear it with tender and care.
