I didn't get home for a year during Covid. Charged the battery on the FJR (Gen 2 like yours) and it started second push of the starter. Best bike I have owned. It'll be going in to semi-retirement soon when a new Tracer9GT arrives.
I’ve been thinking of getting a smaller bike that is better suited to my short local rides and could double as a good track day bike. But the FJR is just so good and I already have it. It’s no slouch on the track either just heavy and won’t lean quite as far as a smaller machine. And it’s always nice to have on the more infrequent longer trips.
I've got a red one - took it all the way from CA to Quebec City and back (South route on the way out and Northern route back) - took more like 3-4 months, but it was the best time I ever had on a bike!
Love the black model - I've never actually seen that color. Only red and yellow around here.
That tank is a work of art 👍 Duacti have always made beautiful bikes at least as far back as when I started on 2 wheels.
The spoked wheels suit the bike too.
The 250, 350 and 450 Desmos were a case in point
I had a Ducati 620 that I absolutely loved. The brand does a good job of balancing all of the components. Like you pointed out, spoke wheels on a "modern retro" is appropriate. And the Termi pipes sound fantastic. Here's the Monster. Wish I had never sold it.
Ducati sure makes some beautiful bikes. Wile I agree on the wire wheels, those 3 spoke wheels are cool too. And that lattice frame is just drop dead gorgeous.
I tried two other bikes before I bought my 09 Bonneville; a BMW Funduro and a Monster. The Beemer bit my balls as I sat on it, cool bike but I cant have that. The Monster just had plastic everywhere and that was too big of a change coming from a 60 Triumph Speedtwin and it gave a cheap impression. I loved the look and the engine thou.

Modern retro's have to have spoked wheels in my opinion.
I remember seeing mag wheels for the first time in the 70's but they do look right on sports bikes
I prefer the tank on that one to the UK version.
The export version of the rocket 3 was also better than at home
