Years ago i had this norton 850, nice looking bike but rather heavy, and slower than the bsa a65 lightning i had before, also the brakes did not work very well.
i did put some dunstall exhaust on it which sounded a little better.
Never had any problems with electric starter though. not even in winter.

The 850 was and still is my dream bike.
I used to work for Prestolite who made the electric starter among other things.
Those Norton crankcases 馃グ

If i could choose i think i would prefer the 750, lighter and faster, but not as good looking.

That Z1 (or Z) looks immaculate.
I see more of them these days than I did back the 70's

Is that a ZRX in the centre of the photo? Is that your Z1?

The modern Z900 and the RS are really good bikes. They stopped selling them here before I could buy one.

My RD200 bought on the 26th May 1975 馃檨
All of those RD's were brilliant bikes. Company in Wigan called Langen Motorcycles still sell new 2 -strokes. I don't have 拢30k to spend on a new one but have you seen any of these around?

That and a Honda SS50 were bought from Millers in Wigan.
The SS50 on the new N plate, 1st August 1975 was 拢201, the RD was 拢408.
I wanted the 250 but my dad wouldn't sign the HP forms.
I'll have to have a look for Langen Motorcycles. There's a bloke in Chorley has loads of classics of all descriptions.
The 2 strokes I see most of are Kettles.

Edit : Must admit I've never heard of Langen and Ashton isn't that far away.

For anybody that is interested the IOM TT starts this week with practice/qualifying and race week next week.
You can get a 2 week pass to watch it all at https://www.iomttraces.com/
拢20 or 拢25 for the 2 weeks. Jamie Whitham is commenting today amongst other.
Good coverage and a lot better than waiting for the Duke video to come out if they still even do them.

A mate of mine had an RD250, that thing was quick. And it was a red and white which looked the business.
What is a good Kettle going for these days? I saw a few RG500's a while back and the price was quite a lot! CCM was another British motorcycle manufacturer I always quite liked too.

I had a look on Langens website and wasn't surprised to see connections with CCM.
I'd say about 拢15k for a mint Kettle with the Z1's being another 拢5k-拢10k.
The RD's were comfortable quicker than the other Japanese 250's in 1974 and something like the Ducati Desmo was twice the price

Great Island with great people. I was at the classic racing some years ago. I rode the track with a Triton 750 on open day. I did not crash, but I did not break any records either. (maybe slowest lap?). The Island have some beautiful scenery and the locals are friendly bunch, with endless patience for visitors who end up on the wrong side of the road.

After you mentioned CCM I had a look at the Langen site. They mentioned Vins, they came out with a new 2-stroke bike a few years back.
Still haven't read this (Some good photos too) but I always intended to buy an RG500 and get Stan Stephens to tune it. But that was 30 years ago. Last time I saw him he was on Youtube trying to build a 1200cc V6 2-stroke.

I had a go on a lads RGV250 one Saturday morning after work.
That was about 1995 and 10 years after I'd last been on a 2 stroke, a sedate GT550.
I just pootled up the road, turned round then I opened it up, wwwhhhhoooooah the front end up cane up towards my chest.
Those 250 RG's and Aprillias were real flying m/cs
