I have a 2008 FJR1300 probably one of the best bikes I have had both for riding and reliability. Also a KLX 250 with a 351cc kit for off road and a Tiger Sport 660 for the shopping etc. Plus a 110 step through and a 110 twist and go.

Nice! We have the same bike, you just have the silver wheels and tank skirt. It really is a fantastic machine. Crazy to think my Speedmaster cost more than the bike! 😵‍💫 Are you on the FJR Owners forum? That’s where I got back into forums before I started living here.

100 years ago... Brough Superior SS80 accident
TE Lawrence, "Lawrence of Arabia" has left several legacies, diplomatic, leadership, military, political and literary (e.g. he wrote 21 letters to Georges Brough, describing how much he enjoyed the motorcycles) but also a legacy resulting in motorcyclists' safety research, leading to the compulsory wear of protective crash helmets.
A century ago, April 1923 local newspapers printed details of the very first accident Thomas Edward Lawrence had near Bovington camp - Dorset with his first Brough Superior SS80, as the motorcycle suffered a burst tyre riding through broken glass scattered over the road.
Between December 1922 and May 1935 TE Lawrence owned 7 Brough Superior motorcycles and had 5 accidents, all but the last in May 1935 due to bad road conditions, not involving other persons.
Unfortunately the location of his first motorcycle accident was also the location of his fifth and fatal motorcycle accident...
.
There’s a Brough Superior only one serial number away from one of TE Lawrence’s bikes for sale at Bonhams:

I put a black tank skirt on it, looks better, the old one broke. I was on the FJR Owners forum for a while . FJR Tech was also good for technical info.

Very cool bike! The front is giving me strong vibes of the later Honda CBR1100XX.

My dad's XX and my old YZF600R.

Your black wheels look a lot better. The 20th Anniversary FJR had gold wheels which I thought looked really good. If that was available in the country where I live I would have bought one and been very happy for the next 20 years.

Have you done anything with your suspension?

I agree on the black wheels. I like the blacked out look but most on the FJR forums hate on the black wheels. The 20th anniversary is very pretty with the gold wheels and they blacked out a lot of the components.

Yes on the suspension. I put the Traxxion Dynamics 1.10 springs up front to stiffen it up. It’s way better now, they are entirely too soft stock. Nothing in the back but I was considering putting a Gen3 shock back there as a cheap upgrade. I also have the ECU tune from Ivan’s Performance. Between that and the Delkevic exhaust the throttle response is greatly improved.

Agree on the forks being too soft as standard. You sound like you have a well sorted set up. I had to settle for a Gen 2 rear shock and a Hyperpro spring, fork springs were also Hyperpro. There was a long wait for Ohlins and there wasn't anything else available at the time. It still made a massive improvement.
I thought about the Ivans last year but the bike is 15 years old and it involves shipping the ECU to the US so I didn't bother. I won't be buying any slip-ons, they are too expensive. Is there a big difference with the Ivans flash and the stock cans?

There was a noticeable improvement in throttle response with Ivan's tune and the stock cans. It wasn't as mind blowing as some people proclaim but it definitely helps get rid of the snatchy/jerky nonsense when getting back on the throttle. However, I was surprised how much the aftermarket cans added to the improvement. I'd guess the tune alone gets you about 65% there and the aftermarket cans the other 35%. Maybe 60/40. The cans helped a lot. Maybe you can find a deal. I bought mine off a member on the FJR forums for about $400. Are you in the UK? Beowulf prices aren't too bad and made in the UK.

I would also be hesitant to ship my ECU overseas. Sometimes they come up for sale if you can snag a second one. Might be better off just getting a Gen3 at a certain point. The front is stiffer then Gen2 but still soft so you'd probably have to do springs again but the electronic fueling will be better.

I keep forgetting we have a motorcycle thread. I took a bunch of pictures on my phone the other day. Bike is dirty too. Need to get it clean and get some with the real camera.

@impalla62ss PS. Some small pinstripes on those black wheels will make a world of difference.

Newly washed 09 Bonneville SE

Stock except; Thruxton gel seat, classic Triumph western handle bars and Triumph performance silencers. 60000km without any problems, just changed oil, brake pads, tyres and chain and sprockets. Great bike!
