Haven't had coffee at home in ages. Since I'm unemployed and I have a can of Chase and Sanborn decaf, only two years past "best by" date, what the hell, eh? Give it a try tomorrow.

Used to love Cafe Bustelo in an old perk when I was in college, because my girlfriend then loved coffee. Unfortunately, vintage percolators vary in their thermostats....

How do you people brew the cup of coffee you need before you are awake enough to operate this complicated machinery 😕

I start with a six ounce glass of Grapefruit juice. Otherwise, I agree.

I lack the technology to make coffee at the house...so I go to Dunkin’...in Las Vegas. 👍

Is that a coffee bong or something? ;-)
Ha, no but interesting idea...
It’s a half-yard, a pretty big glass for beer... the other “morning brew”!

I learned about an Aussie tradition from a fellow diver on a recent trip to Raja Ampat; Shower Beer!

Curiously our daughter, along on the trip, already knew about it.

Hmmm, who much did that degree cost??

@Ashi85 @simomega I also use the Aero Press. What recipes do you use?

Mine is ~18 g of medium roast beans, ground medium fine. 197 degree water. Inverted method, so I let the grounds steep for about a minute before inverting and pressing. Delicious! Everyone thinks it looks complicated but I have a cup in about 8 minutes, with most of that waiting for the water to heat.

I don't weigh but i use one heaping black spoon of whole beans, grind it to med-fine. I do 175 deg and think that's what Aeropress calls for. I poor water in, let plume for 2 seconds, mix for 10 seconds, then press for 20 seconds, though Aeropress calls for a slower press of 30-60 seconds I believe, which I am too impatient for and also find it hard to find a consistent slow tension that would have a 60 sec. duration. I switch between paper filters and the stainless steel filter you can find on amazon. The stainless steel lets in a bit more flavor but also a bit more bitterness/robustness - more like french press. The paper filter is a cleaner taste.

@Andy K I should add that I'm getting a little nervous about hot water and plastic. I've learned that despite BPA free, they replace with other BPA-like elements that aren't FDA regulated or enough research on, which still may be harmful.

Thanks! I have been using the same Aeropress for 2 years now and I think I'm due for a replacement rubber gasket since I can't get a consistent press duration lately. I don't time it carefully but it used to take me about 45 seconds to a minute to press, now it takes closer to 20 and it sometimes "slips" and lets some air out...the good news is it's pretty forgiving and tastes great either way. I think since I use the inverted method which allows extra steeping time it doesn't matter if my press is faster. I've always used the paper filters but recently ordered 3 steel filters which I'll probably try this weekend.

Weekdays on the right, weekends on the left.
Started with a La Pepina, then a Pavoni. Then machine automatica. No looking back. We have the Bluetooth Nespresso, take that on road trips.

Don’t hate me, but...

When I was a kid backpacking we would mix that with a packet of Swiss Miss instant hot cocoa (marshmallows optional). Mmmm . . . that was good.
