Question for those who frequent WoS (or any other in-airport AD) - If one were to contact them in advance regarding a particular reference, do they take requests and could they have it available for a specific departure date/time? Maybe not specifically to hold it, but at least attempt to have stock on hand?

I fly less frequently now than previous couple of years but I always made a point of looking at WoS and their Rolex Boutique in T5. They always seemed to have Speedy Pro’s in stock, possibly not all variations. I’m pretty sure both Hesalite and Sapphire Sandwich on Bracelet was usually there.

Sadly the Rolex Boutique has declined significantly with the lack of professional watches year on year. Mostly not worth bothering.

How it works is you call ahead, if they do not have the timepiece in stock they'll most likely order it in as long as you give a 20% deposit and pay the rest when you come to collect the timepiece. You get a tax-free price as long as you're flying within the EU from the UK from my understanding.

Surely tax free price is flying outside the EU not within.

I thought so too but that's what I was told by the woman at the WoS Terminal 5. From what I understand Duty doesn't apply within the EU so you don't need to pay the duty when you return to the UK.

However if you buy, then fly out of the EU and return then Duty does apply.

It’s a bizarre situation where they’ll discount the watch by the equivalent of a vat free price, but there is still the vat element on your invoice when flying inside the EU.

Technically they should offer you the same deal for outside the EU and then not charge you vat portion. When I flew to Switzerland I asked them that and they said no, they can’t do it. Most peculiar!

Unfortunately the person you spoke to is incorrect. There is a tax treaty within the EU, possibly extending to the EEA. This means you are required to pay VAT or the equivalent within the EU but only once. For instance, things I order from Germany are taxed at 19% but then no additonal VAT is due in the UK. Similarly, duty free is only available to those travelling to any destination outside the EU from the UK.

There is or used to be a stipulation that any duty free goods would not be used or returned to the country of purchase (say UK) but the effort to enforce isn't really practical or cost effective so they probably stopped. If "caught" then full duty would be charged.

WOS Gatwick and Ernest Jones at Gatwick also give back 17% and you can fly event to Manchester and come back in a day to get the reduction.
I have used Ernest Jones once for a LE piece as well. you pay for it as the reduced price and when it comes in they send it to a store of your choice to pick up. I am not sure that they are supposed to do that, but i did not mind.

I probably could have googled that, so thank you.

My Speedmaster was 20% on a Boxing Day sale, at an AD.

I’m trying to figure out whether I should wait till Boxing Day to get mine now!

I got close to 20% in July, but it wouldn’t hurt to see what Boxing Day brings...

I picked up my 2018 SMP on a Boxing Day sale from my AD, but the Speedmaster was excluded then, and from every other sale they've had, frustratingly. OTOH, this policy has helped fuel my love for Seamasters...

I have a 10% off for Chisholm hunter online discount code that would knock £400 off the moonwatch.

I got 9% off at the omega boutique last year when I bought my moonwatch.

I got $5350 - 22% at my local Omega dealer last March. They offered 20% right away, I countered with 25%, they came back with 22% and I bought the damn thing. No regrets. I like supporting local businesses and the peace of mind associated with a dealer-backed factory warranty. It’s nice knowing if my Speedmaster goes wonky for any reason (within five years), I can just walk in the door and hand it back to them.

Has anyone had any recent discount experience on the new 21 Speedmaster, particularly the Sapphire one and in the UK?

I have my name on soo many wait lists for a Snoopy; which I know will be a long wait, but I would really love to get the 'normal' Speedy in the interim, but clearly don't want to pay retail on both and I doubt I will get any discount on a Snoopy for obvious reasons. I have been offered 10% relatively easily, but I would normally get c.20%. I know this is a new model, but there is plenty of stock out there.

I got out of the Rolex game because of the way that ADs were treating even loyal customers and waitlists were just stupid and really hope that Omega are not going the same way.

Thanks

Doubtful on the latest version for now, it's still a popular watch and people queuing to buy at retail.

Give it a while and you'll probably see some discounts as before.

Likewise, doubtful Omega will go the way of Rolex and it's waitlists, mainly as they don't have the brand cache for now, the snoopy is a different animal, plenty of speculators waiting to jump all over that particular piece.

10% off the outgoing model at Berry’s in the uk. For some reason that excludes the hesalite on bracelet version, but the croc strap and both sapphire sandwich versions are discounted.

I've just pulled the trigger on the new 21 Sapphire sandwich having spent the best part of morning negotiating with dealers - such mixed discounts available, but the best I could get was 16.66% which although not what I usually can achieve, I felt happy with.
