Moon watch discounts

Hi all.

I have already done a search on the forum but just wanted to know if anyone had successfully negotiated a discount this year on the moon watch from an AD?

Just wanted to know if I should realistically expect some sort of discount given all the hype around the watch this year.

I am pretty set on buying from an AD given it's my first expensive watch purchase.

I know a price increase is expected for October.

Cheers for any feedback.

Jason

Starting this year, my local ADs and boutiques wouldn't discount the Speedmaster Professional.

Where in the world are you?

Watches of Switzerland Heathrow Terminal 5 and Harrods Watch Shop Heathrow Terminal 2 both give VAT free sales to customers flying inside the EU. This equates to 16.67% discount. That’s without any negotiation.

WoS will definitely tell you if they’ve one in stock but they’re unlikely to hold it for you.

I'm in Sydney. I enquired about a new sapphire sandwich from an AD about 3 months ago. They offered me a 20% discount almost immediately. I went away, came back a short time later and they offered me a slightly better price again for cash. I snapped it up and haven't been happier. Now I've got the bug and will be keeping an eye out for a new black wave dial Seamaster later this year.

Manila, Philippines.

The'll discount other watches, but not the Speedy Pro.

Goldsmiths (part of WoS) give up to a 12% discount if you buy outright, as in not on on interest-free credit.

15-23% depending upon your relationship and skills of negotiation.

Ernest Jones gave me a similar discount last year without much negotiation, whereas Beaverbrooks said they wouldn't discount the moonwatch as it would damage it's history! Even though I was looking to buy another Omega for my wife which was in their sale, we went back and did buy the Omega for my wife and they asked if I'd bought a moonwatch and I told them I had with a discount, a missed sale...

I am in the UK, Cornwall to be exact.

That's pretty nice discount. Might be worth a holiday.

Sounds like it's a bit hit and miss depending on the area you are in. We only really have one local AD in the area. But I am flying to London but not until November unfortunately.

You and I must have similar taste. I purchased these exact same two in the past year. I love them both! They are both great to wear on a daily basis so I tend to alternate between the two.

If you’re thinking Michael Spiers then I’d not bother. I’ve never had a deal good enough to go for with them as they have the local monopoly on high end watches.

I was indeed thinking Michael Spiers! Anywhere else you would suggest?

bought mine lightly used from AD, which resulted in a better discount (35%) than I ever could have negotiated on a new piece. Food for thought.

Certainly wouldn't rule something like that out. Sounds like you got a fantastic deal!

Yeah, pretty pleased. Was only missing the NATO strap (they said "2" straps but they meant the velcro & bracelet). Shame on me for not inspecting the kit. But it came with a year warranty at the AD, and was recently serviced/polished.

Not sure you can get a flight from Newquay International Airport up to Heathrow ;-)

Where in God's county are you (Camborne boy here). There used to be ADs in Truro & Falmouth, there is a small vintage place near Truro cathedral.
