There’s no specific prohibition against eating pork. The law says that Jews must only eat animals that have a cloven hoof and chew the cud. Pigs fall into neither category. It has nothing to do with availability or cleanliness.

This is a theory I have heard in general regarding meat and old religions, pork and Judaism was merely an example of this theory.

Probably not. There's little evidence that hygiene had to do with it. Most likely it was about separation of the tribes. Back in the day there were all these tribes wandering around Canaan. In order to develop and maintain tribal loyalty the leaders found ways to make their tribe seem special so they instituted restrictions and told their followers that this was the word of God. Those restrictions were largely in the context of what other tribes did: If they eat certain things, we don't. If they pray this way, we pray that. Some of these behaviours became defining, others got lost over time or because they were not practical to maintain, or because social mores meant that people were no longer prepared to adhere. By this time the rabbis were pretty good at following the lead of the people, or adapting the rules, rather than risk them abandoning a faith that didn't fit their value system.

I'm going to argue food rules on this. As they are all about food safety. Not to be different.

Perhaps it’s a Hasidic thing then the ones I talked to said they are unclean animals and forbidden I’m just kinda into religions like to read about all of them. For a while I was in the Bob Dylan religion of the month club but I settled back into the one I was born into. I find some good in all religions regardless
Yes, the best translation of the Hebrew bible would have it that God tells the children of Israel that they must not eat those things because they are unclean. Whether that means unhygienic is moot. Certainly a lot of early religious laws from many faiths focus on “purity” and many laws in Judaism pertain to how people must purify themselves following certain events.

Well you’ll see nothing in the Old Testament to support that argument, and there are many other rules and prohibitions that have nothing to do with food.

I've read theories about this. My intepretation is that it was easier to make an inclusive list than an exclusive list, because inclusive is smaller. The (not) mixing the meat and dairy must have come from too much cross-contamination. I'm guessing for shellfish that someone noticed they are bottom-feeding scavengers.
The law about not mixing milk and meat is, if anything, about animal welfare and compassion. The law actually says “you shall not cook a kid in its mother’s milk”. Ie it is cruel to allow a mother see her kid being killed. From that one line the whole dairy/meat separation in Judaism is derived.

As far as shellfish is concerned, again, there’s no specific law against eating shellfish. Jewish law simply says that of the sea creatures, one can only eat that which has fins and scales.

Seems rather shellfish to me.

Alligators are extremely territorial. Once they’ve decided that your lake, pool or house is part of their territory, they will find their way back no matter where you drop them off.

I dropped one off at Camille Fournet; it left rather quickly...

Not really, but since we’ve had photos of cats, a dog, an alligator (and in passing, if you're going to live in a place where an alligator is one of the homeless animals that might arrive at your back door maybe it’s time to consider moving) and much chat about pigs but fortunately no photo of one, a photo of a octopus would be entirely in keeping with this thread.

Unless it’s actually a watch in which case I think you’re in the wrong place

Since you mentioned octopus, the film My Octopus Teacher on Netflix is absolutely wonderful. I can't praise it enough. It is a documentary about a diver who visited the same place every day and gained the trust of an octopus who lived there.
