No, just kidding guys! I'm not in any way affiliated to Omega or their design team. But haven't you one time or another wondered what an updated modern Moonwatch would look like? Had some free time on my hand and decided to have a go at the currently available Moonwatch 311.30.42.30.01.005.

This is what my perfect modern Speedmaster would look like:
- Modern applied metal logo
- Smaller "Omega Speedmaster Professional" print and placed higher on the dial
- Stepped dial
- DON bezel (for the fun of it)
- Longer indices
- No faux patina
- The '57 trilogy bracelet updated to 20 mm (unavailable at the moment).

Clearly vintage inspired, but I've started updating the modern moonwatch, so it has the modern logo, typefaces, case etc.
Again, this is just an amateur concept, nothing extraordinary, nothing official. Just for fun.

But...Omega, it's almost Christmas... ;-)
What do you think?

More or less exactly what I would love and IMO would be a sensible update. Most importantly the bracelet.

But I’m not too optimistic. IMHO this, plus vintage lume, is more likely as an Moon Landing LE.

Looks great but the resemblance is too close to a NOS vintage 145.012, even the bracelet. Don't think Omega would risk going down that road.

Great effort though.

I know, but I believe it makes more sense to take a step back to the real moon watch and create a blend of contemporary and vintage details. But without the aged lume, old logo etc. This is hardly original, but that's not the point. It's to create the perfect modern moonwatch (to me).

So let me get this first.

You want a new watch that hasn't changed for 60+ years to change back to what it was before it changed but you can still buy the ones that haven't changed but you want omega to change the ones that have changed to the ones that haven't changed.

I've always loved the long indices.
That's a great looking Speedy.
It's the equivalent of Porsche making the 912 again with modern technology.
I'd buy it.

As an Apollo LE version, Your design needs a teardrop chronograph hand 😁
As an Alaska Project LE version, Your design needs a Radial dial and a 60-minutes bezel

Looks like a vintage Speedmaster after a service in Bienne 😝

If that’s close to what they are about to release, I’d be happy to buy another vintage Speedy instead 😁

Btw nice work 👍

This would be good for people who don't want to buy vintage.

Indeed! Combining best of both worlds. Although there is not that much "best" in the modern moonwatch, at least not when you compare it with the early references. But we will never see a re-issue of for example the 145.012 because it can hurt the vintage market. But if you put a modern logo on a stepped dial with superluminova it's useless to people who want to swap the dial on for example. It might even look like a 145.012 with modern logo but since I started adding the elements to the existing modern moonwatch dial, there should be a load of smalle differences. I prefer the clean look of a fresh superluminova dial. And I love the patina on authentic vintage dials. But lets not mix those two up.

Looks good. DON bezel in its exact form is not happening for fear of it contaminating the collectible vintage market (which is why the ST2 had "Tachymetre" in orange). Would be cool if they did a ceramic lumed bezel (like on the Silver Snoopy) with a DON.

Yes good point, don't really think the DON is that important on an updated modern Speedmaster. Good idea of the ceramic bezel, just like the CK2998. But the idea was to keep the price the same, as an affordable Speedmaster. Although the limited blue panda CK2998 was 1000 euro extra above the retail price of the standaard Moonwatch, so it might be not that expensive. Good thinking, thanks.

That bracelet makes it.
I wouldn't change the dial too much though.

Omega did some of the work for you, only need to convince them to mass-produce and make available for sale...
