Meet the new Speedmaster Moonwatch 2019?

I love the passion, and think your concept is really sharp. However, I think instituting changes gradually is what a product like the Speedmaster is all about. None of this happened overnight so even if they took just the applied logo I think it would make a big difference.

When do people think the current Speedmaster is due for some upgrades?

1969+50 seems like a good year to update... no?

I would agree that AML would be great, although they clearly know the added value of this as they put it on LE's already.

Proper solid-link version of an 1171 would be fantastic! Not only would they sell many on new watches, but the aftermarket sales could be huge as every existing Speedy owner would order many to put on older watch heads. 👍

One could argue that a new version of the 1171 bracelet would be great for aftermarket sales on new bracelets but hinder new watch sales. I know that I personally wouldn't be buying a new Speedy Pro but I certainly would buy the bracelet for my existing watch.

The steel bracelet looks really good. It makes the watch much cleaner. I'd buy it. 👍

Omega did some of the work for you, only need to convince them to mass-produce and make available for sale...

Images from "Worn and Wound" (for those who want the pictures without following another link):

Those straight lugs combined with a modernised 1171 🥰

Ah yes, forgot about these! Looks like the bottom one comes close and without the DON bezel it's quite safe. Would be great if this will replace the current Moonwatch. Don't think it will have the old style applied logo as this is only available in the limited editions (don't think it makes sense if they would start using two logo's in their regular collection).

Thanks! But I'm not interested in heavy lawsuits. I don't own copyright on any of this. It's just for fun. But would not mind working for Omega some day.

Good point! I'd be happy if they bring back the stepped dial and keep the rest untouched. But that bracelet really needs an update. Also please with tapering down to 16 mm please. And no chunky clasps....and....and....

Yes good point, don't really think the DON is that important on an updated modern Speedmaster. Good idea of the ceramic bezel, just like the CK2998. But the idea was to keep the price the same, as an affordable Speedmaster. Although the limited blue panda CK2998 was 1000 euro extra above the retail price of the standaard Moonwatch, so it might be not that expensive. Good thinking, thanks.
A modern day Speedmaster wouldn't have a Tachymètre at all... Since 1968, NASA astronauts asked for a 60-minutes bezel... and got one !

Interesting and makes sense! But if so, why did the 1978 Alaska III Speedmaster again have a tachymeter scale?

Probably Omega "keeping with the traditional look" and thus keeping the tachymètre bezel but the most important feature of the Alaska III was its clear Radial dial, which was also put on the 1976 Speedsonic f300Hz chronographs destined for NASA (#80 prototypes made I believe ...). During the Space Shuttle era, astronauts wanted an alarm chronograph and Omega came up with the superb X-33, which didn't come with a tachymètre bezel 😁
.
Bottom line remains that 2019 will be a huge opportunity for Omega to commemorate the biggest / most important event for the Speedmaster chronograph used in NASA's history. Moreover a 50th anniversary is a Gold anniversary so let's hope for a Gold version as well.
As Omega CEO R. Aeschlimann said in a few YouTube interviews, "Celebrating the past is important & failure is not an option" ... so let's wait & see what they will come up with.
Looking forward to Omega's special presentation event of the LE Speedy 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission as it won't be at Baselworld-2019 but hopefully an event in combination with the renewed Omega museum in Bienne

What about reducing the size to Ed White proportions 38mm? That would be awesome

Thanks! Good info! But I don't think Omega would like to keep a traditional look on a dedicated NASA watch, that would not be commercially availabel. Form follows function. If they really preferred a countdown bezel over a tachymeter, they would have done so. Perhaps they wanted to measure how many push-ups in space they could in one hour 😉

That would be awesome indeed! Should be easy to make, by changing the case looks of the Photoshop to the FOIS. Will make one if there's more interest. Just like this message or reply.

38mm is not for me. 7 3/4" wrists mean 40mm is my absolute minimum, and then only if the bracelet blends with the case and makes the watch look bigger. my sweet spot is 42mm.
